Currently building U-Boot as the coreboot payload requires user
to change the build configuration for a specific board during

to configure the hardware. For example, the device tree provides
PCI address range for the PCI host controller and U-Boot will
re-program all PCI devices' BAR to be within this range. In order
to make sure we don't mess up the hardware, we should guarantee
the range matches what coreboot programs the chipset.
But we really should make the coreboot payload support easier.
Just like EFI payload, we can create a generic coreboot payload

as many generic drivers as possible. All stuff that touches low

The Linux kernel moved to sphinx-based documentation and got rid of the
DocBook based documentation quite a while ago. Hence, the DocBook
documentation for U-Boot should be converted as well.
To achieve this, import the necessary files from Linux v4.17, and
convert the current DocBook documentation (three files altogether) to
sphinx/reStructuredText.
For now, all old DocBook documentation was merged into a single
handbook, tentatively named "U-Boot Hacker Manual".
For some source files, the documentation style was changed to comply
with kernel-doc; no functional changes were applied.

When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and
there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the
area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it
with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the
Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first
line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line)
and with slightly different comment styles than us.
In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility
and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style.
This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared
license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag
contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag
and have introduced one.

When functions return an error it propagates up the stack to the point
where it is reported. Often the error code provides enough information
about the root cause of the error that this is obvious what went wrong.
However in some cases the error may be hard to trace. For example if a
driver uses several devices to perform an operation, it may not be
obvious which one failed.
Add a log_ret() macro to help with this. This can be used to wrap any
error-return value. The logging system will then output a log record when
the original error is generated, making it easy to trace the call stack
of the error.
This macro can significantly impact code size, so its use is controlled
by a Kconfig option, which is enabled for sandbox.

For the RK3188, the BROM will attempt to load up the first stage
image (SPL for the RK3188) in two steps: first 1KB to offset 0x800
in the SRAM and then the remainder to offset 0xc00 in the SRAM.
It always enters at 0x804, though.
With this changeset, the RK3188 boot removes the TPL (stub) stage and
builds a single SPL binary that utilizes the early back-to-bootrom via
the boot0-hook.
Consequently, the passing of the saved boot params via pmu->os_reg[2]
is also removed.

This adds a DRAM controller driver for the RK3368 and places it in
drivers/ram/rockchip (where the other DM-enabled DRAM controller
drivers for rockchip devices should also be moved eventually).
At this stage, only the following feature-set is supported:
- DDR3
- 32-bit configuration (i.e. fully populated)
- dual-rank (i.e. no auto-detection of ranks)
- DDR3-1600K speed-bin
This driver expects to run from a TPL stage that will later return to
the RK3368 BROM. It communicates with later stages through the
os_reg2 in the pmugrf (i.e. using the same mechanism as Rockchip's DDR
init code).
Unlike other DMC drivers for RK32xx and RK33xx parts, the required
timings are calculated within the driver based on a target frequency
and a DDR3 speed-bin (only the DDR3-1600K speed-bin is support at this
time).
The RK3368 also has the DDRC0_CON0 (DDR ch. 0, control-register 0)
register for controlling the operation of its (single-channel) DRAM
controller in the GRF block. This provides for selecting DDR3, mobile
DDR modes, and control low-power operation.
As part of this change, DDRC0_CON0 is also added to the GRF structure
definition (at offset 0x600).

This patch provides support in u-boot for renaming GPT
partitions. The renaming is accomplished via new 'gpt swap'
and 'gpt rename' commands.
The 'swap' mode returns an error if no matching partition names
are found, or if the number of partitions with one name does not equal
the number with the second name. The 'rename' variant always
succeeds as long as a partition with the provided number exists.
Rewriting the partition table has the side-effect that all partitions
end up with "msftdata" flag set. The reason is that partition type
PARTITION_BASIC_DATA_GUID is hard-coded in the gpt_fill_pte()
function. This does not appear to cause any harm.

Currently, Marvell Armada8k development board use 3 different
defconfigs:
mvebu_db-88f7040-nand_defconfig
mvebu_db-88f7040_defconfig
mvebu_db-88f8040_defconfig
Having 3 different defconfigs makes maintenance difficult.
This patch removes the defconfigs mentioned above and introduce
a new defconfig which represents the Armada8k family.
NOTE:
In order not to break automatic tools compilation,
a default device-tree is set in the defconfig (armada-8040-db).
However, when compiling u-boot, the user MUST explicitly export
the DEVICE_TREE for the requested board because using A80x0
device-tree on A70x0 might break the device.
For more information, refer to "doc/README.marvell" (intoduced

So far we were not using the FIT image format to its full potential:
The SPL FIT loader was just loading the first image from the /images
node plus one of the listed DTBs.
Now with the refactored loader code it's easy to load an arbitrary
number of images in addition to the two mentioned above.
As described in the FIT image source file format description, iterate
over all images listed at the "loadables" property in the configuration
node and load every image at its desired location.
This allows to load any kind of images:
- firmware images to execute before U-Boot proper (for instance
ARM Trusted Firmware (ATF))
- firmware images for management processors (SCP, arisc, ...)
- firmware images for devices like WiFi controllers
- bit files for FPGAs
- additional configuration data
- kernels and/or ramdisks
The actual usage of this feature would be platform and/or board specific.
Also update the FIT documentation to mention the new SPL feature and
provide an example .its file to demonstrate its features.

In some boards like the Raspberry Pi the initial bootloader will pass

This patch introduces a new config option CONFIG_OF_BOARD to use instead
of CONFIG_OF_EMBED or CONFIG_OF_SEPARATE which will initialize the DT
from a board-specific funtion instead of bundling one with U-Boot or as

The RK3399 does not have any boot selection pins and the BootROM probes
the boot interfaces using the following boot-order:
1. SPI
2. eMMC (sdhci in DTS)
3. SD card (sdmmc in DTS)
4. USB loader
For ease of deployment, the SPL stage should mirror the boot order of
the ROM and use the same probing order (assuming that valid images can
be detected by SPL) unless instructed otherwise. The boot-order can
then be configured via the 'u-boot,spl-boot-order' property in the
chosen-node of the DTS.
While this approach is easily extensible to other boards, it is only
implemented for the RK3399 for now, as the large SRAM on the RK3399
makes this easy to fit the needed infrastructure into SPL and our
production setup already runs with DM, OF_CONTROL and BLK in SPL.
The new boot-order property is expected to be used in conjunction with
FIT images (and all legacy image formats disabled via Kconfig).
A boot-sequence with probing and fallthroughs from SPI via eMMC to SD
card (i.e. &spiflash, &sdhci, &sdmmc) has been validated on the RK3399-Q7.

This patch adds support for having a "fixed-link" to some other MAC
(like some embedded switch-device).
For this purpose we introduce a new phy-driver, called "Fixed PHY".
Fixed PHY works only with CONFIG_DM_ETH enabled, since the fixed-link is
described with a subnode below ethernet interface.
Most ethernet drivers (unfortunately not all are following same scheme
for searching/attaching phys) are calling "phy_connect(...)" for getting
a phy-device.
At this point we link in, we search here for a subnode called "fixed-
link", once found we start phy_device_create(...) with the special phy-
id PHY_FIXED_ID (0xa5a55a5a).
During init the "Fixed PHY" driver has registered with this id and now
gets probed, during probe we get all the details about fixed-link out of
dts, later on the phy reports this values.

Certain boards come in different variations by way of utilizing daughter
boards, for example. These boards might contain additional chips, which
are added to the main board's busses, e.g. I2C.
The device tree support for such boards would either, quite naturally,
employ the overlay mechanism to add such chips to the tree, or would use
one large default device tree, and delete the devices that are actually
not present.
Regardless of approach, even on the U-Boot level, a modification of the
device tree is a prerequisite to have such modular families of boards
supported properly.
Therefore, we add an option to make the U-Boot device tree (the actual
copy later used by the driver model) writeable, and add a callback
method that allows boards to modify the device tree at an early stage,
at which, hopefully, also the application of device tree overlays will
be possible.

Move (and rename) the following CONFIG options to Kconfig:

CONFIG_HIKEY_DWMMC (renamed to CONFIG_MMC_DW_K3)
CONFIG_SOCFPGA_DWMMC (renamed to CONFIG_MMC_DW_SOCFPGA)

If we would like to boot from SD card, we have to implement mmc driver

Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>
Booting a payload out of NAND FLASH from the SPL is a crux today, as
it requires hard partioned FLASH. Not a brilliant idea with the
reliability of todays NAND FLASH chips.
The upstream UBI + UBI fastmap implementation which is about to
brought to u-boot is too heavy weight for SPLs as it provides way more
functionality than needed for a SPL and does not even fit into the
restricted SPL areas which are loaded from the SoC boot ROM.
So this provides a fast and lightweight implementation of UBI scanning
and UBI fastmap attach. The scan and logical to physical block mapping
code is developed from scratch, while the fastmap implementation is
lifted from the linux kernel source and stripped down to fit the SPL
needs.
The text foot print on the board which I used for development is:
6854 0 0 6854 1abd
drivers/mtd/ubispl/built-in.o
Attaching a NAND chip with 4096 physical eraseblocks (4 blocks are
reserved for the SPL) takes:
In full scan mode: 1172ms
In fastmap mode: 95ms
The code requires quite some storage. The largest and unknown part of
it is the number of fastmap blocks to read. Therefor the data
structure is not put into the BSS. The code requires a pointer to free
memory handed in which is initialized by the UBI attach code itself.
See doc/README.ubispl for further information on how to use it.
This shares the ubi-media.h and crc32 implementation of drivers/mtd/ubi
There is no way to share the fastmap code, as UBISPL only utilizes the
slightly modified functions ubi_attach_fastmap() and ubi_scan_fastmap()
from the original kernel ubi fastmap implementation.

As the help message of CONFIG_BOOTDELAY says, CONFIG_BOOTDELAY=-2
means the autoboot with no delay, with no abort check even if
CONFIG_ZERO_BOOTDELAY_CHECK is defined.
To sum up, the autoboot behaves as follows:
[1] CONFIG_BOOTDELAY=0 && CONFIG_ZERO_BOOTDELAY_CHECK=y
autoboot with no delay, but you can abort it by key input
[2] CONFIG_BOOTDELAY=0 && CONFIG_ZERO_BOOTDELAY_CHECK=n
autoboot with no delay, with no check for abort
[3] CONFIG_BOOTDELAY=-1
disable autoboot
[4] CONFIG_BOOTDELAY=-2
autoboot with no delay, with no check for abort
As you notice, [2] and [4] come to the same result, which means we
do not need CONFIG_ZERO_BOOTDELAY_CHECK. We can control all the
cases only by CONFIG_BOOTDELAY, like this:
[1] CONFIG_BOOTDELAY=0
autoboot with no delay, but you can abort it by key input
[2] CONFIG_BOOTDELAY=-1
disable autoboot
[3] CONFIG_BOOTDELAY=-2
autoboot with no delay, with no check for abort
This commit converts the logic as follow:
CONFIG_BOOTDELAY=0 && CONFIG_ZERO_BOOTDELAY_CHECK=n
--> CONFIG_BOOTDELAY=-2

DISTRO_DEFAULTS is intended to mirror / replace
include/config_distro_defaults.h.
The intend is for boards which include this file to select this from
their Kconfig files and when moving setting to Kconfig which are #define-ed
in config_distro_defaults.h to select this from DISTRO_DEFAULTS so that
boards which have selected DISTRO_DEFAULTS will keep the same configuration
as before without needing any defconfig file changes.
The initial list of selected things matches all settings recently removed
from config_distro_defaults.h because they have been converted to Kconfig,
with the exception of CMD_ELF and CMD_NET, which have a default of y, if
the default of these ever changes they should be selected by DISTRO_DEFAULTS
too.
For testing and example purposes this commit also converts ARCH_SUNXI
to use DISTRO_DEFAULT instead of selecting everything it needs itself.

Now everything is done to load a raw U-Boot proper image instead of
an mkimage-processed one (as far as I tested on NAND, eMMC, NOR).
The SPL already knows the load address of the U-Boot proper without
parsing its uImage header because the load address is defined by
CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASE, assuming that the two images are generated from
the same build.
My main motivation of this switch is to use u-boot-with-spl.bin, a

Add a driver which sets up the pin configuration on x86 devices with an ICH6
(or later) Platform Controller Hub.
The driver is not in the pinctrl uclass due to some oddities of the way x86
devices work:
- The GPIO controller is not present in I/O space until it is set up
- This is done by writing a register in the PCH
- The PCH has a driver which itself uses PCI, another driver
- The pinctrl uclass requires that a pinctrl device be available before any
other device can be probed
It would be possible to work around the limitations by:
- Hard-coding the GPIO address rather than reading it from the PCH
- Using special x86 PCI access to set the GPIO address in the PCH
However it is not clear that this is better, since the pin configuration
driver does not actually provide normal pin configuration services - it
simply sets up all the pins statically when probed. While this remains the
case, it seems better to use a syscon uclass instead. This can be probed
whenever it is needed, without any limitations.
Also add an 'invert' property to support inverting the input.

One limitation of FIT is that all the data is 'inline' within it, using a
'data' property in each image node. This means that to find out what is in
the FIT it is necessary to scan the entire file. Once loaded it can be
scanned and then the images can be copied to the correct place in memory.
In SPL it can take a significant amount of time to copy images around in
memory. Also loading data that does not end up being used is wasteful. It
would be useful if the FIT were small, acting as a directory, with the
actual data stored elsewhere.
This allows SPL to load the entire FIT, without the images, then load the
images it wants later.
Add a -E option to mkimage to request that it output an 'external' FIT.
Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>
To make the auto-FIT feature useful we need to be able to provide a list of
device tree files on the command line for mkimage to add into the FIT. Add
support for this feature.
So far there is no support for hashing or verified boot using this method.
For those cases, a .its file must still be provided.
Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>
At present, when generating a FIT, mkimage requires a .its file containing
the structure of the FIT and referring to the images to be included.
Creating the .its file is a separate step that makes it harder to use FIT.
This is not required for creating legacy images.
Often the FIT is pretty standard, consisting of an OS image, some device
tree files and a single configuration. We can handle this case automatically
and avoid needing a .its file at all.
To start with, support automatically generate the FIT using a new '-f auto'
option. Initially this only supports adding a single image (e.g. a linux
kernel) and a single configuration.

Currently, the distro boot commands always enumerate USB devices before
performing network operations. However, depending on the board and end-
user configuration, network devices may not be attached to USB, and so
enumerating USB may not be necessary. Enhance the scripts to make this
step optional, so that the user can decrease boot time if they don't
need USB.
This change is performed by moving the "usb start" invocation into a
standalone variable. If the user desires, they can replace that
variable's value with some no-op command such as "true" instead.
Booting from a USB storage device always needs to enumerate USB devices,
so this action is still hard-coded.

You can now configure LAG on VSC9953's ports using the command:
ethsw [port <port_no>] aggr {[help] | show | <lag_group_no>}
A port must belong to a single LAG. By default, a port
belongs to a LAG equal to the port's number.
For each frame, a hash will be calculated based on
Source/Destination MAC addresses, Source/Destination IP(v4/v6)
addresses, Source/Destination ports. This hash will be used to
select a single egress port from LAG. This also assures
that frames from the same flow will always have the
same egress port.

This commit adds:
- new uclass id: UCLASS_ADC
- new uclass driver: drivers/adc/adc-uclass.c
The new uclass's API allows for ADC operation on:
* single-channel with channel selection by a number
* multti-channel with channel selection by bit mask
ADC uclass's functions:
* single-channel:
- adc_start_channel() - start channel conversion
- adc_channel_data() - get conversion data
- adc_channel_single_shot() - start/get conversion data
* multi-channel:
- adc_start_channels() - start selected channels conversion
- adc_channels_data() - get conversion data
- adc_channels_single_shot() - start/get conversion data for channels
selected by bit mask
* general:
- adc_stop() - stop the conversion
- adc_vdd_value() - positive reference Voltage value with polarity [uV]
- adc_vss_value() - negative reference Voltage value with polarity [uV]
- adc_data_mask() - conversion data bit mask
The device tree can provide below constraints/properties:
- vdd-polarity-negative: if true: Vdd = vdd-microvolts * (-1)
- vss-polarity-negative: if true: Vss = vss-microvolts * (-1)
- vdd-supply: phandle to Vdd regulator's node
- vss-supply: phandle to Vss regulator's node
And optional, checked only if the above corresponding, doesn't exist:
- vdd-microvolts: positive reference Voltage [uV]
- vss-microvolts: negative reference Voltage [uV]

Many System on Chip(SoC) solutions are complex with multiple processors
on the same die dedicated to either general purpose of specialized
functions. Many examples do exist in today's SoCs from various vendors.
Typical examples are micro controllers such as an ARM M3/M0 doing a
offload of specific function such as event integration or power
management or controlling camera etc.
Traditionally, the responsibility of loading up such a processor with a
firmware and communication has been with a High Level Operating
System(HLOS) such as Linux. However, there exists classes of products
where Linux would need to expect services from such a processor or the
delay of Linux and operating system being able to load up such a
firmware is unacceptable.
To address these needs, we need some minimal capability to load such a
system and ensure it is started prior to an Operating System(Linux or
any other) is started up.
NOTE: This is NOT meant to be a solve-all solution, instead, it tries to
address certain class of SoCs and products that need such a solution.
A very simple model is introduced here as part of the initial support
that supports microcontrollers with internal memory (no MMU, no
execution from external memory, or specific image format needs). This
basic framework can then (hopefully) be extensible to other complex SoC
processor support as need be.

While I2C supports multi-master buses this is difficult to get right.
The implementation on the master side in software is quite complex.
Clock-stretching and the arbitrary time that an I2C transaction can take
make it difficult to share the bus fairly in the face of high traffic.
When one or more masters can be reset independently part-way through a
transaction it is hard to know the state of the bus.
This driver provides a scheme based on two 'claim' GPIOs, one driven by the
AP (Application Processor, meaning the main CPU) and one driven by the EC
(Embedded Controller, a small CPU aimed at handling system tasks). With
these they can communicate and reliably share the bus. This scheme has
minimal overhead and involves very little code. It is used on snow to
permit the EC and the AP to share access to the main system PMIC and
battery. The scheme can survive reboots by either side without difficulty.
This scheme has been tested in the field with millions of devices.
Since U-Boot runs on the AP, the terminology used is 'our' claim GPIO,
meaning the AP's, and 'their' claim GPIO, meaning the EC's. This terminology
is used by the device tree bindings in Linux also.

Add a new I2C_MUX uclass. Devices in this class can multiplex between
several I2C buses, selecting them one at a time for use by the system.
The multiplexing mechanism is left to the driver to decide - it may be
controlled by GPIOs, for example.
The uclass supports only two methods: select() and deselect().
The current mux state is expected to be stored in the mux itself since
it is the only thing that knows how to make things work. The mux can
record the current state and then avoid switching unless it is necessary.
So select() can be skipped if the mux is already in the correct state.
Also deselect() can be made a nop if required.

Before device-tree, the device serial number used to be passed to the kernel
using ATAGs (on ARM). This is now deprecated and all the handover to the kernel
should now be done using device-tree. Thus, this passes the serial-number
property to the kernel using the serial-number property of the root node, as
expected by the kernel.
The serial number is a string that somewhat represents the device's serial

programmed at factory-time by the manufacturer or come from identification

This commit adds emulation of sandbox PMIC device, which includes:
- PMIC I2C emulation driver
- PMIC I/O driver (UCLASS_PMIC)
- PMIC regulator driver (UCLASS_REGULATOR)
The sandbox PMIC has 12 significant registers and 4 as padding to 16 bytes,
which allows using 'i2c md' command with the default count (16).
The sandbox PMIC provides regulators:
- 2x BUCK
- 2x LDO
Each, with adjustable output:
- Enable state
- Voltage
- Current limit (LDO1/BUCK1 only)
- Operation mode (different for BUCK and LDO)
Each attribute has it's own register, beside the enable state, which depends
on operation mode.
The header file: sandbox_pmic.h includes PMIC's default register values,
which are set on i2c pmic emul driver's probe() method.

This commit adds driver model support to software emulated i2c bus driver.
This driver supports kernel-style device tree bindings. Fdt properties in use:
- compatible - "i2c-gpio"
- gpios - data and clock GPIO pin phandles
- delay-us - micro seconds delay between GPIOs toggle operations,
which is 1/4 of I2C speed clock period.
Added:
- Config: CONFIG_DM_I2C_GPIO
- File: drivers/i2c/i2c-gpio.c
- File: doc/device-tree-bindings/i2c/i2c-gpio.txt

1. esbc_validate command is meant for validating header and
signature of images (Boot Script and ESBC uboot client).
SHA-256 and RSA operations are performed using SEC block in HW.
This command works on both PBL based and Non PBL based Freescale
platforms.
Command usage:
esbc_validate img_hdr_addr [pub_key_hash]
2. ESBC uboot client can be linux. Additionally, rootfs and device
tree blob can also be signed.
3. In the event of header or signature failure in validation,
ITS and ITF bits determine further course of action.
4. In case of soft failure, appropriate error is dumped on console.
5. In case of hard failure, SoC is issued RESET REQUEST after
dumping error on the console.
6. KEY REVOCATION Feature:
QorIQ platforms like B4/T4 have support of srk key table and key
revocation in ISBC code in Silicon.
The srk key table allows the user to have a key table with multiple
keys and revoke any key in case of particular key gets compromised.
In case the ISBC code uses the key revocation and srk key table to
verify the u-boot code, the subsequent chain of trust should also
use the same.
6. ISBC KEY EXTENSION Feature:
This feature allows large number of keys to be used for esbc validation
of images. A set of public keys is being signed and validated by ISBC
which can be further used for esbc validation of images.

Freescale's SEC block has built-in Data Encryption
Key(DEK) Blob Protocol which provides a method for
protecting a DEK for non-secure memory storage.
SEC block protects data in a data structure called
a Secret Key Blob, which provides both confidentiality
and integrity protection.
Every time the blob encapsulation is executed,
a AES-256 key is randomly generated to encrypt the DEK.
This key is encrypted with the OTP Secret key
from SoC. The resulting blob consists of the encrypted
AES-256 key, the encrypted DEK, and a 16-bit MAC.
During decapsulation, the reverse process is performed
to get back the original DEK. A caveat to the blob
decapsulation process, is that the DEK is decrypted
in secure-memory and can only be read by FSL SEC HW.
The DEK is used to decrypt data during encrypted boot.

When Kconfig for U-boot was examined, one of the biggest issues was
how to support multiple images (Normal, SPL, TPL). There were
actually two options, "single .config" and "multiple .config".
After some discussions and thought experiments, I chose the latter,
i.e. to create ".config", "spl/.config", "tpl/.config" for Normal,
SPL, TPL, respectively.
It is true that the "multiple .config" strategy provided us the
maximum flexibility and helped to avoid duplicating CONFIGs among
Normal, SPL, TPL, but I have noticed some fatal problems:
[1] It is impossible to share CONFIG options across the images.
If you change the configuration of Main image, you often have to
adjust some SPL configurations correspondingly. Currently, we
cannot handle the dependencies between them. It means one of the
biggest advantages of Kconfig is lost.
[2] It is too painful to change both ".config" and "spl/.config".
Sunxi guys started to work around this problem by creating a new
configuration target. Commit cbdd9a9737 (sunxi: kconfig: Add
%_felconfig rule to enable FEL build of sunxi platforms.) added
"make *_felconfig" to enable CONFIG_SPL_FEL on both images.
Changing the configuration of multiple images in one command is a
generic demand. The current implementation cannot propose any
good solution about this.
[3] Kconfig files are getting ugly and difficult to understand.
Commit b724bd7d63 (dm: Kconfig: Move CONFIG_SYS_MALLOC_F_LEN to
Kconfig) has sprinkled "if !SPL_BUILD" over the Kconfig files.
[4] The build system got more complicated than it should be.
To adjust Linux-originated Kconfig to U-Boot, the helper script
"scripts/multiconfig.sh" was introduced. Writing a complicated
text processor is a shell script sometimes caused problems.
Now I believe the "single .config" will serve us better. With it,
all the problems above would go away. Instead, we will have to add
some CONFIG_SPL_* (and CONFIG_TPL_*) options such as CONFIG_SPL_DM,
but we will not have much. Anyway, this is what we do now in
scripts/Makefile.spl.
I admit my mistake with my apology and this commit switches to the
single .config configuration.
It is not so difficult to do that:
- Remove unnecessary processings from scripts/multiconfig.sh
This file will remain for a while to support the current defconfig
format. It will be removed after more cleanups are done.
- Adjust some makefiles and Kconfigs
- Add some entries to include/config_uncmd_spl.h and the new file
scripts/Makefile.uncmd_spl. Some CONFIG options that are not
supported on SPL must be disabled because one .config is shared
between SPL and U-Boot proper going forward. I know this is not
a beautiful solution and I think we can do better, but let's see
how much we will have to describe them.
- update doc/README.kconfig
More cleaning up patches will follow this.

(resending to the list since my tweaks are not quite trivial)
At present we try to use the 'reg' property and device tree aliases to give
devices a sequence number. The 'reg' property is often actually a memory
address, so the sequence numbers thus-obtained are not useful. It would be
better if the devices were just sequentially numbered in that case. In fact
neither I2C nor SPI use this feature, so drop it.
Some devices need us to look up an alias to number them within the uclass.
Add a flag to control this, so it is not done unless it is needed.
