Make CONFIG_SYS_NAND_U_BOOT_OFFS configurable through Kconfig, just like
SYS_NAND_BUSWIDTH_16BIT this is only enabled on some SoCs using depends,
to avoid double defining it for SoCs which have not yet moved to Kconfig
for this.
Having this in Kconfig is useful because this is something which may
differ from one board to the other even when using the same SoC.

We only ever use syndrome mode for the partitions which contain the SPL,
as that is required for the BROM to be able to read the SPL.
Instead of using some arbritray limit for deciding whether or not to
use syndrome, be smart and check if u-boot-dtb.bin is directly behind
the SPL, if it is not then it is on its own partition and we should not
use syndrome.
Note the reason why we only use syndrome mode for the SPL is because it
comeswith weaker randomization, introducing a risk for more bit errors,
so we want to avoid it when possible.

We eventually want to add full nand support, since it makes no sense

The BROM does not care / use bad page markings, instead it deals with
any bad pages in the first erase-block by simply trying to load "boot0"

This commit implements the same strategy for the sunxi spl nand code,
allowing it to boot from the backup boot partition when the main boot
partition is bad (tested by erasing the main boot partition).

Auto detect the nand configuration parameters, like the BROM does.
This allows us to get rid of various Kconfig settings, and is
necessary to support generic boards like the mk802 which have seen
many production runs with different nands.
The full blown u-boot/kernel nand driver uses the nand id to determine
this info, for the SPL we do as the BROM does and simply try a few
standard configs.
Note the table only contains configs which are known to actually be used,
rather then all the configs the BROM tries. This means that it may need
to be updated in the future as we add support for nand on more boards.

This saves CONFIG_NAND_SUNXI_SPL_ECC_PAGE_SIZE (typically 1k) in

This buffer required 8KB in .bss section before that commit and now

We have flipped CONFIG_SPL_DISABLE_OF_CONTROL. We have cleansing
devices, $(SPL_) and CONFIG_IS_ENABLED(), so we are ready to clear
away the ugly logic in include/fdtdec.h:
#ifdef CONFIG_OF_CONTROL
# if defined(CONFIG_SPL_BUILD) && !defined(SPL_OF_CONTROL)
# define OF_CONTROL 0
# else
# define OF_CONTROL 1
# endif
#else
# define OF_CONTROL 0

Now CONFIG_IS_ENABLED(OF_CONTROL) is the substitute. It refers to
CONFIG_OF_CONTROL for U-boot proper and CONFIG_SPL_OF_CONTROL for
SPL.
Also, we no longer have to cancel CONFIG_OF_CONTROL in
include/config_uncmd_spl.h and scripts/Makefile.spl.

Make the support for 4K subpage I/O on a SPI NOR flash configurable.
A board which requires the SPI NOR to be accessed in larger 32KiB

use the full OOB for hardare ECC purposes. Since there is no
ECC correction on the OOB it is also safer to use in-band area
to store the bad block table marker.
Signed-off-by: Stefan Agner <stefan@agner.ch>
Implement read of OOB area only. When using column and sector size
properties, only parts of the page can be read. However, this works
only when hardware ECC is disabled, otherwise the ECC engine would
ruin the data in the buffer. To allow OOB only reads, three points
had to be addressed:
- Set ECC mode per command.
- Handle NAND_CMD_READOOB seperate. Make sure column and sector
size is correctly set up, while disabling ECC.
- Now, the OOB data end up at the beginning of the buffer. Remove
the special handling of OOB (spareonly).
Especially bad block scans benefit from this change. On a 512MiB
SLC NAND device, the bad block scan took 1.5s less than before.

Since we do not support sub-page writes anyway, reading the page
back to the controller on SEQIN command is not required. Remove
the page read on SEQIN.
However, the column/page values relevant to the SEQIN command, hence
set the column/row address on SEQIN command.

To improve performance we remember the current page in the buffer
and avoid reading it twice. This implicit page cache increases
complexity while does not increase performance in real world cases.

CONFIG_SPI does not exist in Kconfig in the first place, so the
dependency "depends on DM && SPI" is never met, i.e., DM_SPI_FLASH
can never be enabled (unless you ignore the dependency in an illegal
way. See below.)
Actually, some defconfigs such as socfpga_*_defconfig define
CONFIG_DM_SPI_FLASH=y, but it never appears in the .config file
because of this wrong dependency.
On the other hand, all the Tegra boards enable DM_SPI_FLASH because
config DM_SPI_FLASH

The driver tries to re-use the page buffer by storing the page
number of the current page in the buffer. The page is only read
if the requested page number is not currently in the buffer. When
a block is erased, the page number is marked as invalid if the
erased page equals the one currently in the cache. However, since
a erase block consists of multiple pages, also other page numbers
could be affected.
The commands to reproduce this issue (on a written page):
> nand dump 0x800
> nand erase 0x0 0x20000
> nand dump 0x800
The second nand dump command returns the data from the buffer,
while in fact the page is erased (0xff).
Avoid the hassle to calculate whether the page is affected or not,
but set the page buffer unconditionally to invalid instead.

This command is only enabled by one board, complicates the NAND code,
and doesn't appear to have been functioning properly for several
years. If there are no bad blocks in the NAND region being written
nand_write_skip_bad() will take the shortcut of calling nand_write()
which bypasses the special yaffs handling. This causes invalid YAFFS

Commit fb384c4720 introduced the use of
WAIT0 pin for determining whether the NAND is ready or not. This only
works if all NAND chips are connected to WAIT0. If some chips are
connected to the other available pin WAIT1, nand_wait() does not really
wait and prints a WARN_ON message.
This patch allows the board to provide configuration of which chip is
connected to which WAITx signal. For example, one can define in
include/configs/foo.h:
#define CONFIG_NAND_OMAP_GPMC_WSCFG 0,0,1,1
This would mean that chips using to CS0 and 1 are connected to WAIT0 and
chips with CS2 and 3 are connected to WAIT1.

Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.m@jp.panasonic.com>
When Kconfig for U-boot was examined, one of the biggest issues was
how to support multiple images (Normal, SPL, TPL). There were
actually two options, "single .config" and "multiple .config".
After some discussions and thought experiments, I chose the latter,
i.e. to create ".config", "spl/.config", "tpl/.config" for Normal,
SPL, TPL, respectively.
It is true that the "multiple .config" strategy provided us the
maximum flexibility and helped to avoid duplicating CONFIGs among
Normal, SPL, TPL, but I have noticed some fatal problems:
[1] It is impossible to share CONFIG options across the images.
If you change the configuration of Main image, you often have to
adjust some SPL configurations correspondingly. Currently, we
cannot handle the dependencies between them. It means one of the
biggest advantages of Kconfig is lost.
[2] It is too painful to change both ".config" and "spl/.config".
Sunxi guys started to work around this problem by creating a new
configuration target. Commit cbdd9a9737 (sunxi: kconfig: Add
%_felconfig rule to enable FEL build of sunxi platforms.) added
"make *_felconfig" to enable CONFIG_SPL_FEL on both images.
Changing the configuration of multiple images in one command is a
generic demand. The current implementation cannot propose any
good solution about this.
[3] Kconfig files are getting ugly and difficult to understand.
Commit b724bd7d63 (dm: Kconfig: Move CONFIG_SYS_MALLOC_F_LEN to
Kconfig) has sprinkled "if !SPL_BUILD" over the Kconfig files.
[4] The build system got more complicated than it should be.
To adjust Linux-originated Kconfig to U-Boot, the helper script
"scripts/multiconfig.sh" was introduced. Writing a complicated
text processor is a shell script sometimes caused problems.
Now I believe the "single .config" will serve us better. With it,
all the problems above would go away. Instead, we will have to add
some CONFIG_SPL_* (and CONFIG_TPL_*) options such as CONFIG_SPL_DM,
but we will not have much. Anyway, this is what we do now in
scripts/Makefile.spl.
I admit my mistake with my apology and this commit switches to the
single .config configuration.
It is not so difficult to do that:
- Remove unnecessary processings from scripts/multiconfig.sh
This file will remain for a while to support the current defconfig
format. It will be removed after more cleanups are done.
- Adjust some makefiles and Kconfigs
- Add some entries to include/config_uncmd_spl.h and the new file
scripts/Makefile.uncmd_spl. Some CONFIG options that are not
supported on SPL must be disabled because one .config is shared
between SPL and U-Boot proper going forward. I know this is not
a beautiful solution and I think we can do better, but let's see
how much we will have to describe them.
- update doc/README.kconfig
More cleaning up patches will follow this.

The current implementation has two limitations:
a) it only works in 8-bit mode

Both is easily fixable by someone who has hardware to implement it.

Some but not all of implementations of the Denali NAND controller
have hardware circuits to detect the device parameters such as
page_size, erase_size, etc. Even on those SoCs with such hardware
supported, the hardware is known to detect wrong parameters for some
nasty (almost buggy) NAND devices. The device parameters detected
during nand_scan_ident() are more trustworthy.
This commit sets some hardware registers to mtd->pagesize,
mtd->oobsize, etc. in the code between nand_scan_ident() and
nand_scan_tail().

Some variants of the Denali NAND controller need some registers
set up based on the device information that has been detected during
nand_scan_ident().
CONFIG_SYS_NAND_SELF_INIT has to be defined to insert code between
nand_scan_ident() and nand_scan_tail(). It is also helpful to reduce
the difference between this driver and its Linux counterpart because
this driver was ported from Linux. Moreover, doc/README.nand recommends
to use CONFIG_SYS_NAND_SELF_INIT.

U-Boot has never cared about the type when we get max/min of two

macros synced with the kernel introducing type checks.
Many of references of those macros must be fixed to suppress warnings.
We have two options:

(or add casts to the arguments)
- Use min_t/max_t instead with the appropriate type for the first

The 'sf probe' command currently keeps track of the SPI slave that it
last used. This doesn't work with driver model, since some other driver

Quote (Author: Pekon Gupta <pekon@ti.com>): "The issue is mainly
due to a NAND protocol violation in the omap driver since the
Random Data Output command (05h-E0h) expects to see only the
column address that should be addressed within the already loaded
read page into the read buffer. Only 2 address cycles with ALE
active should be provided between the 05h and E0h commands. The
Page read command expects the full address footprint (2bytes for
column address + 3bytes for row address), but once the page is
loaded into the read buffer, Random Data Output should be used
with only 2bytes for column address."

The Keystone SoCs use the same NAND driver as Davinci.
This patch adds opportunity to write Keystone U-boot image to NAND
device using appropriate RBL ECC layout. This is needed only if RBL
boots U-boot from NAND device and that's supposed that raw u-boot
partition is used only for writing image.
The main problem is that default Davinci ECC layout is different from
Keystone RBL layout. To read U-boot image the RBL needs that image was
written using RBL ECC layout.
The BBT table is written using default Davinci layout and has to
be updated using one. The BBT can be updated only while erasing
chip or by forced bad block assigning, so erase function has to
use native ecc layout in order to be able to write BBT correctly.
So if we're writing to NAND U-boot address we use RBL layout for
others we use default ECC layout.
Also remove definition for CONFIG_CMD_NAND_ECCLAYOUT as there is no
reasons to use ECC layout commands. It was added by mistake.

(a) BCH16_ECC can correct 16 bit-flips per 512Bytes of data.
(b) BCH16_ECC generates 26-bytes of ECC syndrome / 512B.
Due to (b) this scheme can only be used with NAND devices which have enough
OOB to satisfy following equation:
OOBsize per page >= 26 * (page-size / 512)

GPMC controller needs to be configured based on bus-width of the NAND device
connected to it. Also, dynamic detection of NAND bus-width from on-chip ONFI
parameters is not possible in following situations:
SPL: SPL NAND drivers does not support ONFI parameter reading.
U-boot: GPMC controller iniitalization is done in omap_gpmc.c:board_nand_init()
which is called before probing for devices, hence any ONFI parameter
information is not available during GPMC initialization.
Thus, OMAP NAND driver expected board developers to explicitely write GPMC
configurations specific to NAND device attached on board in board files itself.
But this was troublesome for board manufacturers as they need to dive into
lengthy platform & SoC documents to find details of GPMC registers and
appropriate configurations to get NAND device working.
This patch instead adds existing CONFIG_SYS_NAND_BUSWIDTH_16BIT to board config
hich indicates that connected NAND device has x16 bus-width. And then based on
this config GPMC driver itself initializes itself based on NAND bus-width. This
keeps board developers free from knowing GPMC controller specific internals.

As per following Sections in ONFI Spec, NAND_CMD_READID should use only
lower 8-bit for transfering command, address and data even on x16 NAND device.
*Section: Target Initialization"
"The Read ID and Read Parameter Page commands only use the lower 8-bits of the
data bus. The host shall not issue commands that use a word data width on x16
devices until the host determines the device supports a 16-bit data bus width
in the parameter page."
*Section: Bus Width Requirements*
"When the host supports a 16-bit bus width, only data is transferred at the
16-bit width. All address and command line transfers shall use only the lower
8-bits of the data bus. During command transfers, the host may place any value
on the upper 8-bits of the data bus. During address transfers, the host shall
set the upper 8-bits of the data bus to 00h."
Thus porting following commit from linux-kernel to ensure that column address
is not altered to align to x16 bus when issuing NAND_CMD_READID command.

mtd: nand: force NAND_CMD_READID onto 8-bit bus
Author: Brian Norris <computersforpeace@gmail.com> (preserving authorship)
The NAND command helpers tend to automatically shift the column address
for x16 bus devices, since most commands expect a word address, not a
byte address. The Read ID command, however, expects an 8-bit address
(i.e., 0x00, 0x20, or 0x40 should not be translated to 0x00, 0x10, or
0x20).
This fixes the column address for a few drivers which imitate the
nand_base defaults.

If we change to software ecc and then back to hardware ecc, the nand ecc ops
pointers are populated with incorrect function pointers. This is related to the
way nand_scan_tail() handles assigning functions to ecc ops:
If we are switching to software ecc/no ecc, it assigns default functions to the
ecc ops pointers unconditionally, but if we are switching to hardware ecc,
the default hardware ecc functions are assigned to ops pointers only if these
pointers are NULL (so that drivers could set their own functions). In the case
of omap_gpmc.c driver, when we switch to sw ecc, sw ecc functions are
assigned to ecc ops by nand_scan_tail(), and when we later switch to hw ecc,
the ecc ops pointers are not NULL, so nand_scan_tail() does not overwrite
them with hw ecc functions.
The result: sw ecc functions used to write hw ecc data.
Clear the ecc ops pointers in omap_gpmc.c when switching ecc types, so that
ops which were not assigned by the driver will get the correct default values
from nand_scan_tail().

When switching ecc mode, omap_select_ecc_scheme() assigns the appropriate values
into the current nand chip's ecc.layout struct. This is done under the
assumption that the struct exists only to store values, so it is OK to overwrite
it, but there is at least one situation where this assumption is incorrect:
When switching to 1 bit hamming code sw ecc, the job of assigning layout data
is outsourced to nand_scan_tail(), which simply assigns into ecc.layout a
pointer to an existing struct prefilled with the appropriate values. This struct
doubles as both data and layout definition, and therefore shouldn't be
overwritten, but on the next switch to hardware ecc, this is exactly what's
going to happen. The next time the user switches to software ecc, they're
going to get a messed up ecc layout.
Prevent this and possible similar bugs by explicitly using the
private-to-omap_gpmc.c omap_ecclayout struct when switching ecc mode.

Commit "mtd: nand: omap: enable BCH ECC scheme using ELM for generic

software ECC is configured, both during boot, and during ecc switch, in a way
that is not backwards compatible with older systems:
Older version of omap_gpmc.c always assigned ecc.size = 0 when configuring
for software ecc, relying on nand_scan_tail() to select a default for ecc.size
(256), while the new version of omap_gpmc.c assigns ecc.size = pagesize,
which is likely to not be 256.
Since 1 bit hamming sw ecc is only meant to be used by legacy devices, revert

This patch adds new CONFIG_NAND_OMAP_ECCSCHEME, replacing other distributed
CONFIG_xx used for selecting NAND ecc-schemes.
This patch aims at solving following issues.
1) Currently ecc-scheme is tied to SoC platform, which prevents user to select
other ecc-schemes also supported in hardware. like;
- most of OMAP3 SoC platforms use only 1-bit Hamming ecc-scheme, inspite
the fact that they can use higher ecc-schemes like 8-bit ecc-schemes with
software based error detection (OMAP_ECC_BCH4_CODE_HW_DETECTION_SW).
- most of AM33xx SoC plaforms use 8-bit BCH ecc-scheme for now, but hardware
supports BCH16 ecc-scheme also.
2) Different platforms use different CONFIG_xx to select ecc-schemes, which
adds confusion for user while migrating platforms.
- *CONFIG_NAND_OMAP_ELM* which enables ELM hardware engine, selects only
8-bit BCH ecc-scheme with h/w based error-correction (OMAP_ECC_BCH8_CODE_HW)
whereas ELM hardware engine supports other ecc-schemes also like; BCH4,
and BCH16 (in future).
- *CONFIG_NAND_OMAP_BCH8* selects 8-bit BCH ecc-scheme with s/w based error
correction (OMAP_ECC_BCH8_CODE_HW_DETECTION_SW).
- *CONFIG_SPL_NAND_SOFTECC* selects 1-bit Hamming ecc-scheme using s/w library
Thus adding new *CONFIG_NAND_OMAP_ECCSCHEME* de-couples ecc-scheme dependency
on SoC platform and NAND driver. And user can select ecc-scheme independently
foreach board.
However, selection some hardware based ecc-schemes (OMAP_ECC_BCHx_CODE_HW) still
depends on presence of ELM hardware engine on SoC. (Refer doc/README.nand)

|OMAP_ECC_BCH8_CODE_HW_DETECTION_SW |GPMC |S/W BCH library |

Current implementation limits the BCH8_CODE_HW only for AM33xx device family.
(using CONFIG_AM33XX). However, other SoC families (like TI81xx) also have
ELM hardware module, and can support ECC error detection using ELM.
This patch

ELM hardware engine which is used for ECC error detection, is present on all
latest OMAP SoC (like OMAP4xxx, OMAP5xxx, DRA7xxx, AM33xx, AM43xx). Thus ELM
driver should be moved to common drivers/mtd/nand/ folder so that all SoC
having on-chip ELM hardware engine can re-use it.
This patch has following changes:
- mv arch/arm/include/asm/arch-am33xx/elm.h arch/arm/include/asm/omap_elm.h
- mv arch/arm/cpu/armv7/am33xx/elm.c drivers/mtd/nand/omap_elm.c
- update Makefiles
- update #include <asm/elm.h>
- add CONFIG_NAND_OMAP_ELM to compile driver/mtd/nand/omap_elm.c
and include in all board configs using AM33xx SoC platform.

nand_ecclayout is present in mtd.h at Linux.
Move this structure to mtd.h to comply with Linux.
Also, increase the ecc placement locations to 640 to suport device having
writesize/oobsize of 8KB/640B. This means that the maximum oobsize has gone
up to 640 bytes and consequently the maximum ecc placement locations have
also gone up to 640.
Changes from Prabhabkar's version (squashed into one patch to preserve
bisectability):
- Added _LARGE to MTD_MAX_*_ENTRIES
This makes the names match current Linux source, and resolves
a conflict between
http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/280488/
and
http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/284513/
The former was posted first and is closer to matching Linux, but
unlike Linux it does not add _LARGE to the names. The second adds
_LARGE to one of the names, and depends on it in a subsequent patch
(http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/284512/).
- Made max oobfree/eccpos configurable, and used this on tricorder,
alpr, ASH405, T4160QDS, and T4240QDS (these boards failed to build
for me without doing so, due to a size increase).
On tricorder SPL, this saves 2576 bytes (and makes the SPL build
again) versus the new default of 640 eccpos and 32 oobfree, and
saves 336 bytes versus the old default of 128 eccpos and 8 oobfree.

Linux modified the MTD driver interface in commit edbc4540 (with the
same name as this commit). The effect is that calls to mtd_read will
not return -EUCLEAN if the number of ECC-corrected bit errors is below
a certain threshold, which defaults to the strength of the ECC. This
allows -EUCLEAN to stop indicating "some bits were corrected" and begin
indicating "a large number of bits were corrected, the data held in
this region of flash may be lost soon". UBI makes use of this and when
-EUCLEAN is returned from mtd_read it will move data to another block
of flash. Without adopting this interface change UBI on U-boot attempts
to move data between blocks every time a single bit is corrected using
the ECC, which is a very common occurance on some devices.
For some devices where bit errors are common enough, UBI can get stuck
constantly moving data around because each block it attempts to use has
a single bit error. This condition is hit when wear_leveling_worker
attempts to move data from one PEB to another in response to an
-EUCLEAN/UBI_IO_BITFLIPS error. When this happens ubi_eba_copy_leb is
called to perform the data copy, and after the data is written it is
read back to check its validity. If that read returns UBI_IO_BITFLIPS
(in response to an MTD -EUCLEAN) then ubi_eba_copy_leb returns 1 to
wear_leveling worker, which then proceeds to schedule the destination
PEB for erasure. This leads to erase_worker running on the PEB, and
following a successful erase wear_leveling_worker is called which
begins this whole cycle all over again. The end result is that (without
UBI debug output enabled) the boot appears to simply hang whilst in
reality U-boot busily works away at destroying a block of the NAND
flash. Debug output from this situation:

This patch adopts the interface change as in Linux commit edbc4540 in
order to avoid such situations. Given that none of the drivers under

currently out of tree, but which I hope to be able to begin
upstreaming soon.

using bank/extd addr reg facility
The current implementation in spi_flash supports 3-byte address mode
due to this up to 16Mbytes amount of flash is able to access for those
flashes which has an actual size of > 16MB.
As most of the flashes introduces a bank/extd address registers

flashes interfaces are updated EXCEPT for API changes.
- new large NAND chips support is there, though some updates
have got in Linux-3.8.-rc1, (which will follow on top of this patch).

This patch adds a driver for the diskonchip G4 nand flash device. It is based
on the driver from the linux kernel.
This also includes a separate SPL driver. A separate SPL driver is used because
the device operates in a different mode (reliable mode) when loading a boot
image, and also because the storage format of the boot image is different from
normal data (pages are stored redundantly). The SPL driver basically mimics how
a typical IPL reads data from the device. The special operating mode and
storage format are used to compensate for the fact that the IPL does not contain
the BCH ecc decoding algorithm (due to size constraints). Although the u-boot
SPL *could* use ecc, it operates like an IPL for the sake of simplicity and
uniformity, since the IPL and SPL share the task of loading the u-boot image.
As a side benefit, the SPL driver is very small.

Currently is_16bit_nand() is a per SoC function and it decides the bus nand
width by reading some boot related registers.
This method works when NAND is the boot medium, but does not work if another
boot medium is used. For example: booting from a SD card and then using NAND
to store the environment variables, would lead to the following error:
NAND bus width 16 instead 8 bit
No NAND device found!!!
0 MiB
Use CONFIG_SYS_NAND_BUSWIDTH_16BIT symbol to decide the bus width.
If it is defined in the board file, then consider 16-bit NAND bus-width,
otherwise assume 8-bit NAND is used.
This also aligns with Documentation/devicetree/bindings/mtd/nand.txt, which

We make these two functions take a size_t pointer to how much space
was used on NAND to read or write the buffer (when reads/writes happen)
so that bad blocks can be accounted for. We also make them take an
loff_t limit on how much data can be read or written. This means that
we can now catch the case of when writing to a partition would exceed
the partition size due to bad blocks. To do this we also need to make
check_skip_len count not just complete blocks used but partial ones as
well. All callers of nand_(read|write)_skip_bad are adjusted to call

This patch corrects the addresses used when working with Spansion/AMD FLASH chips.
Addressing for 8 and 16 bits is almost identical except in the 16-bit case the
LSB of the address is always 0. The confusion arose because the addresses
in the datasheet for 16-bit mode are word addresses but this code assumed it was
byte addresses.
I have only been able to test this on our Octeon boards which use either an 8-bit
or 16-bit bus. I have not tested the case where there's an 8-bit part on a 16-bit
bus.
This patch also adds some delays as suggested by Spansion.
If a part can be both 8 and 16-bits, it forces it to work in 8-bit mode if an
8-bit bus is detected.
Apart from the pulled changes, fixed few minor code cleanups and tested
on 256M29EW, 512M29EW flashes.

Not only Spansion supports the Persistent Protection Bits (PPB) locking.
Other devices like the Micron JS28F512M29EWx also support this type
of locking/unlocking. Detection of support is done in the same way as
done for the Spansion chips - via the 0x49 CFI word.

Patch 66863b05 [cfi_flash: add support for Spansion flash PPB sector
protection] introduced the PPB (Persistent Protection Bit) locking for
Spansion chips. But right now the sector protection status (locked vs
unlocked) is set to unlocked for all sectors upon bootup. The real
sector protection status is ignored.
This patch now reads the current sector protection status and uses
it for these AMD/Spansion flash chips.

Add support for SST 4KB sector granularity.
Many recent SST flashes, i.e. SST39VF3201B and similar of this family
are declared CFI-conformant from SST. They support CFI query, but implement
2 different sector sizes in the same memory: a 64KB sector (they call it
"block", std AMD erase cmd=0x30), and a 4KB sector (they call it "sector",
erase cmd=0x50). Also, CFI query on these chips, reading from address 0x2dh
of cfi query struct, detects a number of secotrs for the 4KB granularity
(flinfo shows it).
For all other aspects, they are CFI compliant, so, as Linux do, i think
it's a good idea to handle these chips in the CFI driver, with a fixup
to allow 4KB granularity, as should be expected, instead of 64KB.

It could happen (1 out of 100 times) that NAND did not start up correctly after
warm rebooting, so we end up with various failures or DMA timed out due to a
stalled BCH. When resetting BCH together with GPMI, the issue could not be
observed anymore (after 10000+ reboots). We probably need the consistent state
already before sending commands to NAND. This behaviour was observed in barebox
and kernel, so I assume it affects U-Boot as well. I chose to keep the extra
reset for BCH when changing the flash layout to be on the safe side.

IFC-1.1.0 uses 28nm techenology for SRAM. This tech has known limitaion for
SRAM i.e. "byte select" is not supported. Hence Read Modify Write is
implemented in IFC for any "system side write" into sram buffer. Reading an
uninitialized memory results in ECC Error from sram wrapper.
Hence we must initialize/prefill SRAM buffer by any data before writing
anything in SRAM from system side. To initialize SRAM user can use "READID"
NAND command with read bytes equal to SRAM size. It will be a one time

mtd: nand: allow NAND_NO_SUBPAGE_WRITE to be set from driver
The NAND_CHIPOPTIONS_MSK has limited utility and is causing real bugs. It
silently masks off at least one flag that might be set by the driver
(NAND_NO_SUBPAGE_WRITE). This breaks the GPMI NAND driver and possibly
others.
Really, as long as driver writers exercise a small amount of care with
NAND_* options, this mask is not necessary at all; it was only here to
prevent certain options from accidentally being set by the driver. But the
original thought turns out to be a bad idea occasionally. Thus, kill it.
Note, this patch fixes some major gpmi-nand breakage.

The Programmable Multibit ECC (PMECC) controller is a programmable binary
BCH(Bose, Chaudhuri and Hocquenghem) encoder and decoder. This controller
can be used to support both SLC and MLC NAND Flash devices. It supports to
generate ECC to correct 2, 4, 8, 12 or 24 bits of error per sector of data.
To use PMECC in this driver, the user needs to set the PMECC correction
capability, the sector size and ROM lookup table offsets in board config file.
This driver is ported from Linux kernel atmel_nand PMECC patch. The main difference
is in this version it uses registers structure access hardware instead of using macros.

There are two problems in the current timeout loop implementation:
1. In case initial test failing, there will always be a delay of 1 ms
2. The delay duration is not tunable
The new implementation addresses both these limitations.

smi_read_sr fails sometimes because of TFF not getting set within assumed time.
This condition may arise because of, for example, smi memory being in a erase

SMI is the serial memory interface controller provided by ST.
Earlier, a driver exists in the u-boot source code for the SMI IP. However, it
was specific to spear platforms. This commit converts the same driver to a more
generic driver. As a result, the driver files are renamed to st_smi.c and
st_smi.h and moved into drivers/mtd folder for reusability by other platforms

for all the channels as is now.
The common DMA block init part, which only configures the block, is then called
from CPUs arch_cpu_init() call.

Freescale IFC NAND Machine calculates ECC on 512byte sector and same is used in
fsl_ifc_run_command() during ECC status verification. Also this sector is passed
to is_blank() for blank checking. It is wrong at first place because
is_blank()'s implementation checks for Page size and OOB area size.
is_blank() should be called per page for main and OOB area verification.
Variables name are redefined to avoid confusion between buffer and ecc sector.

CONFIG_MTD_ECC_SOFT selected from every board that needs it. We could
start by looking at what NAND driver the board selects, and whether
that driver ever asks for soft ECC.

The current implementation of cfi_flash uses udelay to reset watchdog.
If several blocks are blank (0xff filled) the watchdog timed out.
The reason is, udelay is never called, if flash device is ready to fast.
e.g.
mw.w $(copy_addr) FFFF 10000;cp.b $(copy_addr) 10880000 20000
-> watchdog timed out
mw.w $(copy_addr) 0000 10000;cp.b $(copy_addr) 10880000 20000
-> watchdog not timed out
This patch adds an extra watchdog reset in front of flash ready check.

* all 8-bit/16-bit NAND flash devices
* HAMMING and RS hardware ECC
* automatic boot up from NAND flash devices
nand_ecclayout is set up for 2GiB NAND chip mounted in Qi LB60.
We'll bring up boot-from-NAND support in nand_spl/ in the future.

This fixes that u-boot gets stuck when a bitflip was detected
during "ubi part <ubi_device>". If a bitflip was detected UBI tries
to copy the PEB to a different place. This needs that the eba table
are initialized, but this was done after the wear levelling worker
detects the bitflip. So changes the initialisation of these two
tasks in u-boot.
This is a u-boot specific patch and not needed in the linux layer,
because due to commit 1b1f9a9d00
UBI: Ensure that "background thread" operations are really executed
we schedule these tasks in place and not as in linux after the inital
task which schedule this new task is finished.

In nand_davinci_readecc(), select the correct NANDF<n>ECC register based
on CONFIG_SYS_NAND_CS rather than hardcoding the choice of NANDF1ECC.
This allows 1-bit hardware ECC to work with chip select other than CS2.
Note this now matches the usage in nand_davinci_enable_hwecc(), which
already had the correct handling, and allows refactoring to a single
function encapsulating the register read.
Without this fix, writing NAND pages to a chip not wired to CS2 would
result in in the ECC calculation always returning FFFFFF for each
512-byte segment, and reading back a correctly written page (one with
ECC intact) would always fail. With this fix, the ECC is written and
verified correctly.

The eLBC NAND driver currently follows up each program/write operation with a
read-back of the page, in order to [ostensibly] fill in ECC data for the
caller. However, the page address used for this read is always -1, so the read
will never work correctly. Remove this useless (and potentially problematic)
block of code.

When writing 0x4000 to the unlockend_blkaddr register, large writes to
a 2k page NAND sometimes fail. The current kernel driver writes 0xFFFF
to this register for V2 of the nand controller.
However on an i.MX31 this also fixes writes larger than 32MB.
The datasheet is very unspecific, but (0x4000=16384)*2000
roughly fits the limits we're encountering with NAND writes.
This problem might be NAND chip specific.

Add NAND support (including spl) on IFC, such as is found on the p1010.
Note that using hardware ECC on IFC with small-page NAND (which is what
comes on the p1010rdb reference board) means there will be insufficient
OOB space for JFFS2, since IFC does not support 1-bit ECC. UBI should
work, as it does not use OOB for anything but ECC.
When hardware ECC is not enabled in CSOR, software ECC is now used.

This patch adds support for 16 bit NAND devices attached to the
NDFC on ppc4xx processors. Two config entries were added:
CONFIG_SYS_NDFC_16 - Setting this tells the NDFC that a
16 bit device is attached.
CONFIG_SYS_NDFC_EBC0_CFG - This is for the External Bus
Controller configuration register.
Also, a new ndfc_read_byte() function was added which does not
first convert the data to little endian.
The NAND SPL was also modified to do 16bit bad block testing
when a 16 bit chip is being used.

In a future commit the behaviour of nand_write_skip_bad()
will be further extended.
Convert the only flag currently passed to the nand_write_
skip_bad() function to a bitfield of only one allocated
member. This should avoid an explosion of int's at the
end of the parameter list or the ambiguous calls like
nand_write_skip_bad(info, offset, len, buf, 0, 1, 1);
nand_write_skip_bad(info, offset, len, buf, 0, 1, 0);
Instead there will be:
nand_write_skip_bad(info, offset, len, buf, WITH_YAFFS_OOB |
WITH_OTHER);
