When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and
there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the
area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it
with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the
Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first
line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line)
and with slightly different comment styles than us.
In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility
and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style.
This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared
license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag
contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag
and have introduced one.

Others just use the same boilerplate which is not good by itself,

When writing code, for example during relocation, we ensure that the
icache has a coherent view of the new instructions with a call to
flush_cache(). This handles the bulk of the work to ensure the new
instructions will execute as expected, however it does not ensure that
the CPU pipeline doesn't already contain instructions taken from a stale
view of the affected memory. This could theoretically be a problem for
relocation, but in practice typically isn't because we sync caches for
enough code after the entry point of the newly written code that by the
time the CPU pipeline might possibly fetch any of it we'll have long ago
written it back & invalidated any stale icache entries. This is however
a problem for shorter regions of code.
In preparation for later patches which write shorter segments of code,
ensure any instruction hazards are cleared by flush_cache() by
introducing & using a new instruction_hazard_barrier() function which
makes use of the jr.hb instruction to clear the hazard.

A typical use of cache maintenance functions is to force writeback of
data which a device is about to read using DMA - for example a
descriptor or command structure. Such users of cache maintenance
functions require that operations on the cache have completed before
they proceed to instruct a device to read memory. This requires that we
place a completion barrier (ie. sync instruction) between the cache ops
and whatever write informs the device to perform DMA.
Whilst strictly speaking this isn't all users of the cache maintenance
functions & we could instead place the barriers in the drivers that
require them, it would be much more invasive to do so than to just have
the barrier be the default by placing it in the cache functions
themselves. The cost is low enough that it shouldn't matter to us in any
rare cases that we use the cache functions when not performing DMA.

Until these limitations are removed we cannot really support more than one

This converts the following to Kconfig:
CONFIG_ENV_IS_IN_MMC
CONFIG_ENV_IS_IN_NAND
CONFIG_ENV_IS_IN_UBI
CONFIG_ENV_IS_NOWHERE
In fact this already exists for sunxi as a 'choice' config. However not
all the choices are available in Kconfig yet so we cannot use that. It
would lead to more than one option being set.
In addition, one purpose of this series is to allow the environment to be
stored in more than one place. So the existing choice is converted to a
normal config allowing each option to be set independently.
There are not many opportunities for Kconfig updates to reduce the size of
this patch. This was tested with
./tools/moveconfig.py -i CONFIG_ENV_IS_IN_MMC
And then manual updates. This is because for CHAIN_OF_TRUST boards they
can only have ENV_IS_NOWHERE set, so we enforce that via Kconfig logic

U-Boot has up until now built with -fpic for the MIPS architecture,
producing position independent code which uses indirection through a
global offset table, making relocation fairly straightforward as it
simply involves patching up GOT entries.
Using -fpic does however have some downsides. The biggest of these is
that generated code is bloated in various ways. For example, function
calls are indirected through the GOT & the t9 register:
8f998064 lw t9,-32668(gp)
0320f809 jalr t9
Without -fpic the call is simply:
0f803f01 jal be00fc04 <puts>
This is more compact & faster (due to the lack of the load & the
dependency the jump has on its result). It is also easier to read &
debug because the disassembly shows what function is being called,
rather than just an offset from gp which would then have to be looked up
in the ELF to discover the target function.
Another disadvantage of -fpic is that each function begins with a
sequence to calculate the value of the gp register, for example:
3c1c0004 lui gp,0x4
279c3384 addiu gp,gp,13188
0399e021 addu gp,gp,t9
Without using -fpic this sequence no longer appears at the start of each
function, reducing code size considerably.
This patch switches U-Boot from building with -fpic to building with
-fno-pic, in order to gain the benefits described above. The cost of
this is an extra step during the build process to extract relocation
data from the ELF & write it into a new .rel section in a compact
format, plus the added complexity of dealing with multiple types of
relocation rather than the single type that applied to the GOT. The
benefit is smaller, cleaner, more debuggable code. The relocate_code()
function is reimplemented in C to handle the new relocation scheme,
which also makes it easier to read & debug.
Taking maltael_defconfig as an example the size of u-boot.bin built
using the Codescape MIPS 2016.05-06 toolchain (gcc 4.9.2, binutils
2.24.90) shrinks from 254KiB to 224KiB.

When booting from ROM, early exceptions can't be handled
properly. Instead of busy-looping give the developer the
possibilty to examine the situation. Invoke an UHI
exception operation which can be read as unhandled exception
by a hardware debugger if one is attached. If the debugger
doesn't support UHI, the exception is read as unexpected
breakpoint.

This adds a compile time option to include code for static
exception vectors. Static exception vectors are only needed,
when the U-Boot entry point is equal to the CPU reset exception
vector address. For instance this is the case when U-Boot is
used as ROM in Qemu or booted from parallel NOR flash. When
U-Boot is booted from RAM (e.g. loaded there by SPL), the
exception vectors need to be setup dynamically, which is done
in follow-up commits.

Unlike Linux, nothing about errno.h is arch-specific in U-Boot.
As you see, all of arch/${ARCH}/include/asm/errno.h is just a
wrapper of <asm-generic/errno.h>. Actually, U-Boot does not
export headers to user-space, so we just have to care about the
consistency in the U-Boot tree.

Some systems are configured such that multiple CPUs begin running from
their reset vector following a system reset. If this occurs then U-Boot
will be run on multiple CPUs simultaneously, which causes all sorts of
issues as the multiple instances of U-Boot clobber each other.
Prevent this from happening by simply hanging with an infinite loop if
we run on a CPU whose ID, as determined by GlobalNumber or EBase.CPUNum
as appropriate, is non-zero.

The relocate_code function was handling cache maintenance incorrectly.
It copied U-Boot to its new location, flushed the caches & then
proceeded to apply relocations & jump to the new code without flushing
the caches again. This is problematic as the instruction cache could
potentially have already fetched instructions that hadn't had relocs
applied.
Rework this to perform the flush_cache call using the code in the
original copy of U-Boot, after having applied relocations to the new
copy of U-Boot. The new U-Boot can then be jumped to safely once that
cache flush has been performed.
As part of this, since the old U-Boot is used up until after that cache
flush, complexity around loading values from the GOT using a jump & link
instruction & loads from a table is removed. Instead we can simply load
the needed values with PTR_LA fromt the original GOT.

Ensure that cache operations complete before returning from
mips_cache_reset by placing a completion barrier (sync instruction)
before the return. Without this there is no guarantee that the cache ops

indexed cache ops & thus not implicitly ordered with memory accesses.

Writing to the coprocessor 0 TagLo registers introduces an execution

During boot we set Config.K0=2 (uncached) such that any accesses to the
kseg0 memory region are performed uncached before the caches are
initialised. This write to the Config register introduces an execution
hazard between it & any following memory accesses (such as the load of
_gp), which we need to clear in order to ensure those memory accesses
are actually performed uncached. Clear this execution hazard with the
insertion of an ehb execution hazard barrier instruction.

Enable support for the MIPS Coherence Manager & L2 caches on the MIPS

MIPS Linux expects the bootloader to leave the boot CPU a member of the
coherent domain when running on a system with a CM, and we will need to
do so if we wish to make use of IOCUs to have cache-coherent DMA in
U-Boot (and on some systems there is no choice in that matter). When a
CM is present, join the coherent domain after completing cache
initialisation.

This patch adds support for initialising & maintaining L2 caches on MIPS
systems. The L2 cache configuration may be advertised through either
coprocessor 0 or the MIPS Coherence Manager depending upon the system,
and support for both is included.
If the L2 can be bypassed then we bypass it early in boot & initialise
the L1 caches first, such that we can start making use of the L1
instruction cache as early as possible. Otherwise we initialise the L2
first such that the L1s have no opportunity to generate access to the
uninitialised L2.

The following changes are made to the clock API:
* The concept of "clocks" and "peripheral clocks" are unified; each clock
provider now implements a single set of clocks. This provides a simpler
conceptual interface to clients, and better aligns with device tree
clock bindings.
* Clocks are now identified with a single "struct clk", rather than
requiring clients to store the clock provider device and clock identity
values separately. For simple clock consumers, this isolates clients
from internal details of the clock API.
* clk.h is split so it only contains the client/consumer API, whereas
clk-uclass.h contains the provider API. This aligns with the recently
added reset and mailbox APIs.
* clk_ops .of_xlate(), .request(), and .free() are added so providers
can customize these operations if needed. This also aligns with the
recently added reset and mailbox APIs.
* clk_disable() is added.
* All users of the current clock APIs are updated.
* Sandbox clock tests are updated to exercise clock lookup via DT, and
clock enable/disable.
* rkclk_get_clk() is removed and replaced with standard APIs.
Buildman shows no clock-related errors for any board for which buildman

This patch makes sure that the flush/invalidate_dcache_range() functions
can handle corner-case calls like this -- invalidate_dcache_range(0, 0, 0);
This call is valid and is happily produced by USB EHCI code for example.
The expected behavior of the cache function(s) in this case is that they
will do no operation, since the size is zero.
The current implementation though has a problem where such invocation will
result in a hard CPU hang. This is because under such conditions, where the
start_addr = 0 and stop = 0, the addr = 0 and aend = 0xffffffe0 . The loop
will then try to iterate over the entire address space, which in itself is
wrong. But iterating over the entire address space might also hit some odd
address which will cause bus hang. The later happens on the Atheros MIPS.

In commit a18a477 (MIPS: use common code from lib/time.c) MIPS platforms
started using common the common timer functions which are based around
the fact that many platforms have a 32-bit free running counter register
that can be used see commit 8dfafdd (Introduce common timer functions).
Even MIPS64 has such a 32-bit register (some have an additional 64-bit free
running counter, but that's something for another time).
The problem is that in __read_32bit_c0_register() we read the value from
this register into an _signed_ int and as it's returned up the call
chain to timer_read_counter() it gets assigned to an unsigned long. On a
32-bit system there is no problem. On a 64-bit system odd things happen,
sign extension seems to kick in and all of a sudden if the counter
register happens to have the MSb (i.e. the sign bit) set the negative
int gets sign extended into a very large unsigned long value. This in
turn throws out things from get_ticks() up.
Update __read_32bit_c0_register() and __read_32bit_c0_ctrl_register() to
use "unsigned int res;" instead of "int res;". There seems to be little
reason to treat these register values as signed. They are either
counters (which by definition are unsigned) or are made up of various
bit fields to be interpreted as per the CPU datasheet.

Always keep all sections in u-boot ELF binary. Move all unneeded
sections after _end to avoid allocating space in the final binary.
Also remove .deadcode section which is now obsolete.
removed section .deadcode because the original symptoms were not
visible anymore. Unfortuneatly the binutils bug still exists.
The size of .rel.dyn section is often bigger than needed for all
entries. But objcopy only allocates space as much as required for all
reloc entries. Thus there is a gap between the last entry and
__rel_dyn_end in u-boot.bin. If u-boot is booted from RAM (e.g. in
SPL scenarios) that area could contain garbage data which could lead

with "make -C <sub-dir>" syntax when descending into the
sub-directories.
On the other hand, Kbuild uses a different idea
to handle out-of-tree build and directory descending.
The build process of Kbuild always occurs under the output tree.
When "O=dir/to/store/output/files" is given, the build system
changes the current working directory to that directory and
restarts the make.
Kbuild uses "make -f $(srctree)/scripts/Makefile.build obj=<sub-dir>"
syntax for descending into sub-directories.
(We can write it like "make $(obj)=<sub-dir>" with a shorthand.)
This means the current working directory is always the top
of the output directory.

Whilst U-boot does not require this itself, Linux currently relies upon
it having been muxed and enabled by the bootloader. Thus in order to
preserve compatibility with current kernels before a fix is merged in
Linux we will enable the SERIRQ interrupt and mux it to its pin.
Without doing this current kernels will never receive serial port
interrupts and the end result is typically that userland appears to
hang.

The physical base address of the NOR flash is 0x1e000000
on the Malta boards. The hardware also maps the first 4MiB
of the flash into the 0x1fc00000-0x1fffffff range.
Currently, U-Boot uses the mapped address to access the
flash, which does not work in recent qemu versions.
Since commit a427338b222b43197c2776cbc996936df0302f51
(mips_malta: correct reading MIPS revision at 0x1fc00010)
writing to the mapped address space causes a CPU exception.
Due to the exception, U-Boot hangs during boot when it tries
to detect the CFI flash chip.
Use the correct physical address for the MALTA_FLASH_BASE
constant to fix the problem. In order to avoid relocation
problems, also update the CONFIG_SYS_{TEXT,MONITOR}_BASE
constants.
The change makes it possible to start U-Boot on a Malta
board emulated with Qemu 1.6.1 and 1.7.0-rc0. It also
works on older versions (tested with 1.1.1, 1.2.2, 1.4.2,
1.5.3).

Without setting up the PIRQ[A:D] interrupt routes, PCI interrupts will
be left disabled. Linux does not set up this routing but relies upon it
having been set up by the bootloader, reading back the IRQ lines which
the PIRQ[A:D] signals have been routed to.
This patch routes PIRQA & PIRQB to IRQ 10, and PIRQC & PIRQD to IRQ 11.
This matches the setup used by YAMON.

This patch adds support for running on Malta boards using coreFPGA6
core cards, including support for the msc01 system controller used
with them. The system controller is detected at runtime allowing one
U-boot binary to run on a Malta with either.
Due to the PCI I/O base differing between Maltas using gt64120 & msc01
system controllers, the UART setup is modified slightly. A second UART
is added so that there is one pointing at the correct address for each
system controller. The Malta board then defines its own
default_serial_console function to select the correct one at runtime.
The incorrect UART will simply not function.
Tested on:
- A coreFPGA6 Malta running interAptiv and proAptiv bitstreams, both
with and without an L2 cache.
- QEMU.

For boards such as the MIPS Malta with an FPGA core card it is desirable
to be able to detect the L1 cache sizes at runtime, since they are not
dependant upon the board but on the FPGA bitstream in use. This patch
performs that detection when the CONFIG_SYS_[DI]CACHE_SIZE macros are
not defined by the board configuration. In cases where the sizes are
detected this patch also removes the restriction that the I-cache &
D-cache line sizes must be the same, as this is not necessarily true.
If the cache sizes are defined by a configuration then they will be
hardcoded as before, so this patch will not add overhead to such
boards.

[MIPS] Qemu: Remove platform.
The Qemu platform was originally implemented to have an easily supportable
platform until Qemu reaches a state where it emulates a real world system.
Since the latest release Qemu is capable of emulating the MIPSsim and
Malta platforms, so this goal has been reached. The Qemu plaform is also
rather underfeatured so less useful than a Malta emulation.
Thus the special bootm implementation is obsolete by now and can be
dropped. The Qemu support in U-Boot is going to be replaced by MIPS Malta
board support.

We create a separate header file for link symbols defined by the link
scripts. It is helpful to have these all in one place and try to
make them common across architectures. Since Linux already has a similar
file, we bring this in even though many of the symbols there are not
relevant to us.
Each architecture has its own asm/sections.h where symbols specifc to
that architecture can be added. For now everything except AVR32 just
includes the generic header.

All other IO accessor functions are using the
'inline' directive. Use that also for the __in*s
to make it consistent with the other variants.

The bootm command supports subcommands since long time
however those subcommands are not yet usable on MIPS.
The patch is based on the ARM implementation, and it adds
support for the 'prep' and 'go' subcommands only.

pointers to putc(), getc(), etc. This is busted ever since the

then the following ld insntrustion generates a Adel exception.
So here make _gp be always aligned in 8 bytes.

Because timestamp is declared as `static', we needn't initialize
it by writing it a zero. If we do it before relocate_code, we
will write into a flash address(0xffffffffbfc0xxxx).

Linux usb/ch9.h seems to have all the same information (and more)
as usbdescriptors.h so use the former instead of the later one.
As a consequense of this change USB_SPEED_* values don't correspond
directly to EHCI speed encoding anymore, I've added necessary
recoding in EHCI driver. Also there is no point to put speed into
pipe anymore so it's removed and a bunch of host drivers fixed to
look at usb_device->speed instead.
Old usbdescriptors.h included is not removed as it seems to be
used by old USB device code.
This makes usb.h and usbdevice.h incompatible. Fortunately the
only place that tries to include both are the old MUSB code and
it needs usb.h only for USB_DMA_MINALIGN used in aligned attribute
on musb_regs structure but this attribute seems to be unneeded
(old MUSB code doesn't support any DMA at all).

This patch converts the old method of creating a list of command
onto the new LG-arrays code. The old u_boot_cmd section is converted
to new u_boot_list_cmd subsection and LG-array macros used as needed.
Minor adjustments had to be made to the common code to work with the
LG-array macros, mostly the fixup_cmdtable() calls are now passed the
ll_entry_start and ll_entry_count instead of linker-generated symbols.
The command.c had to be adjusted as well so it would use the newly
introduced LG-array API instead of directly using linker-generated
symbols.
