edd9ad8194 riscv: cpu: Add callback to init each core
Add a callback harts_early_init() to start.S to allow different riscv
hart perform setup code for each hart as early as possible. Since all
the harts enter the callback, they must be able to run the same

85c714d8dc riscv: Adjust board_get_usable_ram_top() for 32-bit
When testing QEMU RISC-V 'virt' machine with a 2 GiB memory
configuration, it was discovered gd->ram_top is assigned to
value zero in setup_dest_addr().

While gd->ram_top should not be declared as type `unsigned long`,
which will be updated in a future patch, the current logic in
board_get_usable_ram_top() can be updated to cover both 64-bit
and 32-bit RISC-V.

Move this out of the common header and include it only where needed. In

85768134b4 riscv: Ensure gp is NULL or points to valid data
This ensures constructs like `if (gd & gd->...) { ... }` work when
accessing the global data pointer. Without this change, it was possible for
a very early trap to cause _exit_trap to directly or indirectly (through
printf) to read arbitrary memory. This could cause a second trap,
preventing show_regs from being printed.

printf (and specifically puts) uses gd to determine what function to print
with. These functions in turn use gd to find the serial device, etc.
However, before accessing gd, puts first checks to see if it is non-NULL.
This indicates an existing (perhaps undocumented) assumption that either gd
is NULL or it is completely valid.

Before this patch, gd either points to unexpected data (because it retains
the value it did from the prior-stage) or points to uninitialized data
(because it has not yet been initialized by board_init_f_init_reserve)
until the hart has acquired available_harts_lock. This can cause two
problems, depending on the value of gd->flags. If GD_FLG_SERIAL_READY is
unset, then some garbage data will be printed to stdout, but there will not
be a second trap. However, if GD_FLG_SERIAL_READY is set, then puts will
try to print with serial_puts, which will likely cause a second trap.

After this patch, gd is zero up until either a hart has set it in
wait_for_gd_init, or until it is set by arch_init_gd. This prevents its
usage before its data is initialized because both handle_trap and puts
ensure that gd is nonzero before using it. After gd has been set, it is OK
to access it because its data has been cleared (and so flags is valid).

XIP cannot use locks because flash is not writable. This leaves it
vulnerable to the same class of bugs regarding already-pending IPIs as
before this series. Fixing that would require finding another method of
synchronization, which is outside the scope of this series.

c33efafaf9 riscv: Rework riscv timer driver to only support S-mode
The riscv-timer driver currently serves as a shim for several riscv timer
drivers. This is not too desirable because it bypasses the usual timer
selection via the driver model. There is no easy way to specify an
alternate timing driver, or have the tick rate depend on the cpu's
configured frequency. The timer drivers also do not have device structs,
and so have to rely on storing parameters in gd_t. Lastly, there is no
initialization call, so driver init is done in the same function which
reads the time. This can result in confusing error messages. To a user, it
looks like the driver failed when trying to read the time, whereas it may
have failed while initializing.

This patch removes the shim functionality from the riscv-timer driver, and
has it instead implement the former rdtime.c timer driver. This is because
existing u-boot users who pass in a device tree (e.g. qemu) do not create a
timer device for S-mode u-boot. The existing behavior of creating the
riscv-timer device in the riscv cpu driver must be kept. The actual reading
of the CSRs has been redone in the style of Linux's get_cycles64.

a0018fc820 riscv: Make SiFive HiFive Unleashed board boot again
Commit 40686c394e ("riscv: Clean up IPI initialization code")
caused U-Boot failed to boot on SiFive HiFive Unleashed board.

The codes inside arch_cpu_init_dm() may call U-Boot timer APIs
before the call to riscv_init_ipi(). At that time the timer register
base (e.g.: the SiFive CLINT device in this case) is unknown yet.

It might be the name riscv_init_ipi() that misleads people to only
consider it is related to IPI, but in fact the timer capability is
provided by the same SiFive CLINT device that provides the IPI.
Timer capability is needed for both UP and SMP.

Considering that the original refactor does have benefits, that it
makes the IPI code more similar to U-Boot initialization idioms.
It also removes some quite ugly macros. Let's do the minimal revert
instead of a complete revert, plus a fixes to arch_cpu_init_dm() to
consider the SPL case.

d9f1cee286 riscv: Fix breakage caused by linker relaxation
Due to the two-instruction sequence needed to access arbitrary memory
locations, the RISC-V linker aggressively optimises memory accesses and
jumps at link-time. This is called "linker relaxation," and is discussed
in this SiFive article
<https://www.sifive.com/blog/all-aboard-part-3-linker-relaxation-in-riscv-toolchain>.
One of the optimizations in place is to assume that the __global_pointer
symbol is placed in the gp register. To quote the article:

"...The magic __global_pointer$ symbol is defined to point 0x800 bytes
past the start of the .sdata section. The 0x800 magic number allows
signed 12-bit offsets from __global_pointer$ to address symbols at the
start of the .sdata section. The linker assumes that if this symbol is
defined, then the gp register contains that value, which it can then use
to relax accesses to global symbols within that 12-bit range. The
compiler treats the gp register as a constant so it doesn't need to be
saved or restored, which means it is generally only written by _start,
the ELF entry point."

However, U-Boot instead keeps the global data pointer in gp. This causes
memory accesses and jumps optimized to use the gp pointer to fail. To
fix this problem, we undefine the __global_pointer symbol.

c7e1effb96 riscv: support SPL stack and global data relocation
To support relocation of the stack and global data on RISC-V, the
secondary harts must be notified of the change using IPIs. We can reuse
the hart relocation code for this purpose. It uses global data to store
the new stack pointer and global data pointer for the secondary harts.
This means that we cannot update the global data pointer of the main
hart in spl_relocate_stack_gd(), because the secondary harts have not
yet been relocated at this point. It is updated after the secondary
harts have been notified.

3dea63c844 riscv: add support for multi-hart systems
On RISC-V, all harts boot independently. To be able to run on a

as used in the Linux kernel selects the hart U-Boot runs on. All other
harts are halted. U-Boot can delegate functions to them using
smp_call_function().

Every hart has a valid pointer to the global data structure and a 8KiB

26f4fd1cb4 riscv: generic: Ensure that U-Boot runs within 4GB for 64bit systems
On 64bit systems, the DRAM top can be easily beyond 4GB and U-Boot
DMA mapping APIs will generate DMA addresses beyond 4GB. This
breaks DMA programming in 32bit DMA capable devices (such as
Cadence MACB ethernet). For example, If DRAM is more then 2GB
on QEMU sifive_u machine then Cadence MACB ethernet stops working
for U-Boot because it is a 32bit DMA capable device.

To handle 32bit DMA capable devices on 64bit systems, we provide
custom implementation of board_get_usable_ram_top() which ensures
that usable ram top is not more then 4GB. This in-turn ensures
that U-Boot always runs within 4GB hence DMA addresses generated
by DMA mapping APIs will be within 4GB too.

c9056653ec riscv: move the AX25-specific implementation of flush_dcache_all
The fence instruction is used to enforce device I/O and memory ordering
constraints in RISC-V. It can not be relied on to directly affect the

Andes' AX25 does not have a coherence agent. Its fence instruction
flushes the data cache and is used to keep data in the system coherent.
The implementation of flush_dcache_all in lib/cache.c is therefore
specific to the AX25. Move it into the AX25-specific cache.c in
cpu/ax25/.

This also adds a missing new line between flush_dcache_all and

5d8b2e7711 riscv: save hart ID and device tree passed by prior boot stage
Store the hart ID and device tree passed by the prior boot stage (in a0

The device tree is also stored in memory to make it available to U-Boot

31f9058994 riscv: do not blindly modify the mstatus CSR
The mstatus CSR includes WPRI (writes preserve values, reads ignore
values) fields and must therefore not be set to zero without preserving
these fields. It is not apparent why mstatus is set to zero here since
it is not required for U-Boot to run. Remove it.

This instruction and others encode zero as an immediate. RISC-V has the
zero register for this purpose. Replace the immediates with the zero
register.

We don't have a reset method on any RISC-V board yet. Instead of

510e379c49 riscv: Add QEMU virt board support
This adds QEMU RISC-V 'virt' board target support, with the hope of
helping people easily test U-Boot on RISC-V.

The QEMU virt machine models a generic RISC-V virtual machine with
support for the VirtIO standard networking and block storage devices.
It has CLINT, PLIC, 16550A UART devices in addition to VirtIO and
it also uses device-tree to pass configuration information to guest
software. It implements RISC-V privileged architecture spec v1.10.

Both 32-bit and 64-bit builds are supported. Support is pretty much
preliminary, only booting to U-Boot shell with the UART driver on
a single core. Booting Linux is not supported yet.

7e21fbca26 efi_loader: Rename sections to allow for implicit data
Some times gcc may generate data that is then used within code that may
be part of an efi runtime section. That data could be jump tables,
constants or strings.

In order to make sure we catch these, we need to ensure that gcc emits
them into a section that we can relocate together with all the other
efi runtime bits. This only works if the -ffunction-sections and
-fdata-sections flags are passed and the efi runtime functions are
in a section that starts with ".text".

Up to now we had all efi runtime bits in sections that did not
interfere with the normal section naming scheme, but this forces
us to do so. Hence we need to move the efi_loader text/data/rodata
sections before the global *(.text*) catch-all section.

With this patch in place, we should hopefully have an easier time
to extend the efi runtime functionality in the future.
