AVR32 is gone. It's already more than two years for no support in Buildroot,
even longer there is no support in GCC (last version is heavily patched 4.2.4).

ca562b630e rockchip: video: rk3399: add HDMI TX support on the RK3399
This commit enables the RK3399 HDMI TX, which is very similar to the
one found on the RK3288. As requested by Simon, this splits the HDMI
driver into a SOC-specific portion (rk3399_hdmi.c, rk3288_hdmi.c) and
a common portion (rk_hdmi.c).

Note that the I2C communication for reading the EDID works well with
the default settings, but does not with the alternate settings used on
the RK3288... this configuration aspect is reflected by the driverdata
for the RK3399 driver.

Having some sort of DTS-based configuration for the regulator
dependencies would be nice for the future, but for now we simply use
lists of regulator names (also via driverdata) that we probe.

147fd3ac5a rockchip: video: split RK3288-specific part off from rk_hdmi
To prepare for the addition of RK3399 HDMI support, the HDMI driver is
refactored and broken into a chip-specific and a generic part. This
change adds the internal interfaces, makes common/reusable functions
externally visible and splits the RK3288 driver into a separate file.

For the probing of regulators, we reuse the infrastructure created
during the VOP refactoring... i.e. we simply call into the helper
function defined for the VOP.

d46d40474a rockchip: video: refactor rk_vop and split RK3288-specific code off
To prepare for adding the RK3399 VOP driver (which shares most of its
registers and config logic with the RK3228 VOP), this change refactors
the driver and splits the RK3288-specific driver off.

The changes in detail are:
- introduces a data-structure for chip-specific drivers to register
features/callbacks with the common driver: at this time, this is
limited to a callback for setting the pin polarities (between the
VOP and the encoder modules) and a flag to signal 10bit RGB
  capability
- refactors the probing of regulators into a helper function that
can take a list of regulator names to probe and autoset
- moves the priv data-structure into a (common) header file to be
used by the chip-specific drivers to provide base addresses to
  the common driver
- uses a callback into the chip-specific driver to set pin polarities
(replacing the direct register accesses previously used)
- splits enabling the output (towards an encoder) into a separate
help function withint the common driver

Fix up some files which currently don't do this. This is necessary because
driver model will soon start using global data and configuration in the

a821c4af79 dm: Rename dev_addr..() functions
These support the flat device tree. We want to use the dev_read_..()
prefix for functions that support both flat tree and live tree. So rename
the existing functions to avoid confusion.

In the end we will have:

   1. dev_read_addr...() - works on devices, supports flat/live tree
   2. devfdt_get_addr...() - current functions, flat tree only
   3. of_get_address() etc. - new functions, live tree only

All drivers will be written to use 1. That function will in turn call
either 2 or 3 depending on whether the flat or live tree is in use.

Note this involves changing some dead code - the imx_lpi2c.c file.

7682736c89 video: Fix crash when scroll screen
After enabling log printing to lcd, when the screen starts
scrolling, system crashes. Log is shown as bellow:

    "Synchronous Abort" handler, esr 0x96000045
    "Synchronous Abort" handler, esr 0x96000045

Checking the source code, we found that the variable "pixels"
gets a wrong value:

    int pixels = VIDEO_FONT_HEIGHT * vid_priv->line_length;

"pixels" here means the value of pixels for a character, rather
than the bytes for a character. So the variable "pixels" is 4
times bigger than it's exact value, which will cause the memory
overflow when the cpu runs the following code:

    for (i = 0; i < pixels; i++)
        *dst++ = clr; <<----

When enabling the DCU and pixel clock, the test mode is activated
since this is the reset configuration. The test mode immediately

This patch enables the pixel clock after initialization of the DCU

421c98d7d2 sunxi: display: Use PWM to drive backlight where applicable
When the backlight's pwm input is connected to a pwm output of the SoC,
actually use pwm to drive the backlight.

The mean reason for doing this is to fix the backlight turning off
for aprox. 1 second while the kernel is booting. This is caused by
the kernel actually using pwm to drive the backlight, so that it
can dim the backlight. First the pwm driver loads and switches the
pinmux for the pin driving the backlight's pwm input to the pwm
controller. Then about 1s later the actual backlight driver loads
and tells the pwm driver to actually update the pwm settings, which
have a power-on-reset value of "off".

An additional advantage is that this allows us to initatiate the
backlight at 80%, which is the kernel default, avoiding a brightness
change while the kernel loads.

135aa95002 clk: convert API to match reset/mailbox style
The following changes are made to the clock API:
* The concept of "clocks" and "peripheral clocks" are unified; each clock
provider now implements a single set of clocks. This provides a simpler
conceptual interface to clients, and better aligns with device tree
  clock bindings.
* Clocks are now identified with a single "struct clk", rather than
requiring clients to store the clock provider device and clock identity
values separately. For simple clock consumers, this isolates clients
from internal details of the clock API.
* clk.h is split so it only contains the client/consumer API, whereas
clk-uclass.h contains the provider API. This aligns with the recently
  added reset and mailbox APIs.
* clk_ops .of_xlate(), .request(), and .free() are added so providers
can customize these operations if needed. This also aligns with the
recently added reset and mailbox APIs.
* clk_disable() is added.
* All users of the current clock APIs are updated.
* Sandbox clock tests are updated to exercise clock lookup via DT, and
  clock enable/disable.
* rkclk_get_clk() is removed and replaced with standard APIs.

Buildman shows no clock-related errors for any board for which buildman
can download a toolchain.

test/py passes for sandbox (which invokes the dm clk test amongst
others).

54693cbdca video: tegra: refuse to bind to disabled dcs
This prevents the following boot-time message on any board where only the
first DC is in use, yet the DC's DT node is enabled:

stdio_add_devices: Video device failed (ret=-22)

(This happens on at least Harmony, Ventana, and likely any other Tegra20
board with display enabled other than Seaboard).

The Tegra DC's DT node represents a display controller. It may itself
drive an integrated RGB display output, or be used by some other display
controller such as HDMI. For this reason the DC node itself is not
enabled/disabled in DT; the DC itself is considered a shared resource, not
the final (board-specific) display output. The node should instantiate a
display output driver only if the rgb subnode is enabled. Other output
drivers are free to use the DC if they are enabled and their DT node
references the DC's DT node. Adapt the Tegra display drivers' bind()
routine to only bind to the DC's DT node if the RGB subnode is enabled.

Now that the display driver does the right thing, remove the workaround
for this issue from Seaboard's DT file.

97cb092763 x86: broadwell: Add video support
Add a video driver for Intel's broadwell integrated graphics controller.
This uses a binary blob for most init, with the driver just performing a few
basic tasks.

This driver supports VESA as the mode-setting mechanism. Since most boards
don't support driver model yet with VESA, a special case is added to the
Kconfig for broadwell. Eventually all boards will use driver model and this
can be removed.

The existing 8x16 font is adequate for most purposes. It is small and fast.
However for boot screens where information must be presented to the user,
the console font is not ideal. Common requirements are larger and

This console driver can use TrueType fonts built into U-Boot, and render
them at any size. This can be used in scripts to place text as needed on
the display.

This driver is not really designed to operate with the command line. Much
of U-Boot expects a fixed-width font. But to keep things working correctly,
rudimentary support for the console is provided. The main missing feature is
support for command-line editing.

The existing LCD/video interface suffers from conflating the bitmap display

1acafc73bf dm: video: Add a video uclass
U-Boot has separate code for LCDs and 'video' devices. Both now use a
very similar API thanks to earlier work by Nikita Kiryanov. With the driver-
model conversion we should unify these into a single uclass.

Unfortunately there are different features supported by each. This
implementation provides for a common set of features which should serve
most purposes. The intent is to support:

- bitmap devices with 8, 16 and 32 bits per pixel
- text console wih white on black or vice versa
- rotated text console
- bitmap display (BMP format)

More can be added as additional boards are ported over to use driver model
for video.

The name 'video' is chosen for the uclass since it is more generic than LCD.
Another option would be 'display' but that would introduce a third concept
to U-Boot which seems like the wrong approach.

The existing LCD and video init functions are not needed now, so this uclass
makes no attempt to implement them.

CONFIG_CONSOLE_CURSOR, CONFIG_SYS_CONSOLE_BLINK_COUNT and
CONFIG_CONSOLE_TIME are not used by any board. The implementation is not
great and stands in the way of a refactor of i8042. Drop these for now.
They can be re-introduced quite easily later, perhaps with driver-model
real-time-clock (RTC) support.

When reintroducing, it might be useful to make a few changes:
- Blink time would be more useful than blink count
- The confusing #ifdefs should be avoided
- The time functions should support driver model
- It would be best keyed off console_tstc() or some similar idle loop
rather than a particular input driver (i8042 in this case)

Introudce a new function lcdif_power_down.

1. Waits for a VSYNC interrupt to guarantee the reset is done at the

2. Add power down function to stop lcdif.

The reason to introduce lcdif_power_down is that we want lcdif to be in

system stable, otherwise system may hang.

0f9258228e of: clean up OF_CONTROL ifdef conditionals
We have flipped CONFIG_SPL_DISABLE_OF_CONTROL. We have cleansing
devices, $(SPL_) and CONFIG_IS_ENABLED(), so we are ready to clear
away the ugly logic in include/fdtdec.h:

 #ifdef CONFIG_OF_CONTROL
 # if defined(CONFIG_SPL_BUILD) && !defined(SPL_OF_CONTROL)
 #  define OF_CONTROL 0
 # else
 #  define OF_CONTROL 1
 # endif
 #else
 # define OF_CONTROL 0
 #endif

Now CONFIG_IS_ENABLED(OF_CONTROL) is the substitute. It refers to
CONFIG_OF_CONTROL for U-boot proper and CONFIG_SPL_OF_CONTROL for
SPL.

Also, we no longer have to cancel CONFIG_OF_CONTROL in
include/config_uncmd_spl.h and scripts/Makefile.spl.

44d8ae5b69 sunxi: Introduce a hidden SUNXI_GEN_SUNxI Kconfig bool
sun6i and newer (derived) SoCs such as the sun8i-a23, sun8i-a33 and sun9i
have a various things in common, like having separate ahb reset control
registers, the SID living inside the pmic, custom pmic busses, new style
watchdog, etc.

This commit introduces a new hidden SUNXI_GEN_SUN6I Kconfig bool which can be
used to check for these features avoiding the need for an ever growing list
of "#if defined CONFIG_MACH_SUN?I" conditionals as we add support for more
"new style" sunxi SoCs.

Note that this commit changes the behavior of the gmac and hdmi code for
sun8i and the upcoming sun9i devices. This does not matter as sun8i does
not have gmac nor hdmi, and sun9i has new hardware-blocks for these so
the old code will not work there.

Also this is intentional as if a sun8i / sun9i variant which does use the
old hwblocks shows up then the GEN_SUN6I code paths will be the right ones
to use.

For completeness this also adds a SUNXI_GEN_SUN4I bool for A10/A13/A20.

3b4e16eb53 drivers/video/am335x-fb: Add possibility to wait for stable power/picture
Often on boards exists a circuit which switches power on/off to LCD display.
Due to the need of limiting the in-rush current the output voltage from this
circuit rises "slowly", so it is necessary to wait a bit (VCC ramp up time)
before starting output on LCD-pins.
This time is specified in <n> ms within the panel-settings, called "pup_delay"

Further some LCDs need a couple of frames to stabilize the image on it.
We have now the possibility to wait some time after starting output on LCD.
This time is also specified in <n> ms within panel-settings, called "pon_delay"

sunxi_simplefb_setup() to tell the kernel to not touch the framebuffer.

This makes u-boot properly see the framebuffer as dram, and initalize the
level 2 cache for it, fixing the very slow cfb scrolling problem.

As an added bonus this stops us from reserving the framebuffer when simplefb
is not used because an older kernel is booted, or hdp is used and no hdmi
cable was plugged in, freeing up the memory for kernel use in these cases.

fb75d972ea sunxi: video: Force h/vsync active high when using ext. vga dac on some boards
On both my A13-OLinuxIno and my A13-OLinuxIno-Micro, the vga output gives an
unstable image when active low v or hsync is used.

The problem seems to be specific to the OLinuxIno A13 (normal & micro)
boards. I've just looked up the schematics and they use an opendrain driver
for the vga sync lines, and with sync pulses it is the logical high->low
edge of the pulse which counts for the timing, which with an active low
sync is being driven by the pull-up, and that simply seems to not drive
it hard enough to get a stable image.

So force v and hsync active high on these boards. independent of what the
modeline says. This fixes the unstable image.

Testing has shown that on sun4i the display backend engine does not have

As added advantage of this is that it results in much better memory bandwidth
as it reduces the amount of dram bank switches, for more details see:

dddccd6913 video: ssd2828: Allow using 'pclk' as the PLL clock source
Instead of using the internal 'tx_clk' clock source, it is also
possible to use the pixel clock signal from the parallel LCD
interface ('pclk') as the reference clock for PLL.

The 'tx_clk' clock speed may be different on different boards/devices
(the allowed range is 8MHz - 30MHz). Which is not very convenient,
especially considering the need to know the exact 'tx_clk' clock
speed. This clock speed may be difficult to identify without having
device schematics and/or accurate documentation/sources every time.

Using 'pclk' is free from all these problems.

b8329acf98 video: Add support for SSD2828 (parallel LCD to MIPI bridge)
SSD2828 can take pixel data coming from a parallel LCD interface
and translate it on the fly into MIPI DSI interface for driving
a MIPI compatible TFT display. SSD2828 is configured over SPI
interface, which may or may not have MISO pin wired up on some
hardware. So a write-only SPI mode also has to be supported.

The SSD2828 support code is implemented as a utility function
and needs to be called from real display drivers, which are
responsible for driving parallel LCD hardware in front of the
video pipeline. The usage instructions are provided as comments
in the header file.

6515032e3b sunxi: display: Make lcd display clk phase configurable
While running some tests with an Olinuxino-A13-Micro + a 7" Olimex LCD module
I noticed that the screen flickered. This is caused by the lcd display clk
phase reg value being set to 0, where it should be 1 in this setup.

This commit adds a Kconfig option for the lcd display clk phase, so that we
can set it per board. This defaults to 1, because looking at all the fex
files in sunxi-boards, that is by far the most used value.

This commit updated the Ippo and MSI Primo73 tablet defconfigs to override the
default of 1 with 0, as that is the correct value for those tablets, this
keeps the register settings the same as before this commit.

The Olinuxino-A13 defconfigs are not updated, changing the register setting
for these boards from 0 to 1, this is intentional.

mode is a relatively safe 1024x768, more complete EDID handling is

This code is enabled when HPD detects an attached monitor.

Current config is such that 8MB is shaved off at the top of the RAM.
This avoids several memory handling issues, most significant is the fact
that on linux on ARM you are not allowed to remap known RAM as IO. A
clued in display driver will be able to recycle this reserved RAM in
future though.

cfbconsole was chosen as it provides the most important functionality: a
working u-boot console, allowing for the debugging of certain issues
without the need for a UART.

b41411954d linux/kernel.h: sync min, max, min3, max3 macros with Linux
U-Boot has never cared about the type when we get max/min of two
values, but Linux Kernel does. This commit gets min, max, min3, max3
macros synced with the kernel introducing type checks.

Many of references of those macros must be fixed to suppress warnings.
We have two options:
 - Use min, max, min3, max3 only when the arguments have the same type
(or add casts to the arguments)
 - Use min_t/max_t instead with the appropriate type for the first
   argument

cba1da495d include: move various macros to include/linux/kernel.h
U-Boot has imported various utility macros from Linux
scattering them to various places without consistency.

In include/common.h are min, max, min3, max3, ARRAY_SIZE, ALIGN,
container_of, DIV_ROUND_UP, etc.
In include/linux/compat.h are min_t, max_t, round_up, round_down,
etc.
We also have duplicated defines of min_t in some *.c files.

Moreover, we are suffering from too cluttered include/common.h.

This commit moves various macros that originate in
include/linux/kernel.h of Linux to their original position.

Note:
This commit simply moves the macros; the macros roundup,
min, max, min2, max3, ARRAY_SIZE are different
from those of Linux at this point.

709ea543b9 stdio: Pass device pointer to stdio methods
At present stdio device functions do not get any clue as to which stdio
device is being acted on. Some implementations go to great lengths to work
around this, such as defining a whole separate set of functions for each
possible device.

For driver model we need to associate a stdio_dev with a device. It doesn't
seem possible to continue with this work-around approach.

Instead, add a stdio_dev pointer to each of the stdio member functions.

Note: The serial drivers have the same problem, but it is not strictly
necessary to fix that to get driver model running. Also, if we convert
serial over to driver model the problem will go away.

Code size increases by 244 bytes for Thumb2 and 428 for PowerPC.

This patch forces the in-memory header to be aligned properly
for these compressed images by extracting them to a 2-byte
offset in the memory returned by malloc. Since malloc will always
return a 4-byte aligned value, this forces the .bmp header
fields to be naturally aligned on 4-byte addresses.

Currently the HDMI splash screen image quality on mx6solo does not show a
very stable image.

By comparing the IPU driver from U-boot with the one from FSL 4.1.0 BSP,
we can see that there is an inverted logic for setting the DI_GEN_POL_CLK bit.

>From FSL BSP [1] we have:

	if (!sig.clk_pol)
		di_gen |= DI_GEN_POLARITY_DISP_CLK;

Applying the same logic into U-boot fixes the HDMI image stability.
