As proposed in the pull request thread, there is some inconsistency in
handling the `--no-deps` flag which requires `--` before it, and
`--fix` flag which does not.
In this commit the `--no-deps` flag does not need the `--` anymore.
However, it can still be used that way: `cargo clipyy -- --no-deps`.
`--no-deps` filled in with a little more information. Explain that
`--fix` implies `--no-deps`.
Explain that `--no-deps` is used with `cargo clippy --`, including
one example.
This commit closes#7389. As stated in the issue, `cargo clippy --help`
provides explanation for some flags and states that the rest are same
as in `cargo check --help`, even though some clippy specific flags
exist.
This commit extends the `cargo clippy --help` with two additional flags,
- `cargo clippy --fix`
- `cargo clippy --no-deps`
If there are more flags which are not present in `cargo check --help`
please bring these to my attention, I will include these aswell.
For now, I noticed only the two flags mentioned above.
This has been unstable since it was first introduced in
https://github.com/rust-lang/rust-clippy/pull/5363. In that time, I have
been using it successfully in nightly without issues. I don't think
there are any blocking issues now that RUSTC_WORKSPACE_WRAPPER is
stabilized, so this can be stabilized.
Stabilize workspace wrapper.
This fixes it so that `cargo clippy` doesn't share the same cache artifacts as `cargo check`. The Cargo side was stabilized a while ago (https://github.com/rust-lang/cargo/pull/8976), so this should be ready to go. I'm not aware of any blockers or concerns.
Closes#4612
---
changelog: `cargo clippy` no longer shares the same build cache as `cargo check`.
This introduces a work-around for a bug in rustup.rs when excuting
cargo from a custom toolchain. Instead of trusting rustup to
invoke cargo from one of the release channels we just invoke
nightly cargo directly.
This commit makes `cargo clippy` output the build artifacts to a
separate directory if the `CLIPPY_DOGFOOD` env var is set. This should
prevent dogfood builds from interfering with regular builds.
This should help with issue #2595.
