Remove ReceivedCharacter (#15126)
# Objective

- Fixes #12639.
- `ReceivedCharacter` was deprecated in #12868 for 0.14, and should be
removed for 0.15.

## Solution

- Remove all instances of `ReceivedCharacter`, including the relevant
`#[allow(deprecated)]` lint attributes.

## Migration Guide

`ReceivedCharacter` was deprecated in 0.14 due to `winit` reworking
their keyboard system. It has now been fully removed. Switch to using
`KeyboardInput` instead.

Picking event ordering (#14862)
# Objective

Correctly order picking events. Resolves
https://github.com/bevyengine/bevy/issues/5984.

## Solution

Event ordering [very long standing
problem](https://github.com/aevyrie/bevy_mod_picking/issues/294) with
mod picking, stemming from two related issues. The first problem was
that `Pointer<T>` events of different types couldn't be ordered, but we
have already gotten around that in the upstream by switching to
observers. Since observers run in the order they are triggered, this
isn't an issue.

The second problem was that the underlying event streams that picking
uses to create it's pointer interaction events *also* lacked ordering,
and the systems that generated the points couldn't interleave events.
This PR fixes that by unifying the event streams and integrating the
various interaction systems.

The concrete changes are as follows:
+ `bevy_winit::WinitEvent` has been moved to `bevy_window::WindowEvent`.
This provides a unified (and more importantly, *ordered*) input stream
for both `bevy_window` and `bevy_input` events.
+ Replaces `InputMove` and `InputPress` with `PointerInput`, a new
unified input event which drives picking and interaction. This event is
built to have drop-in forward compatibility with [winit's upcoming
pointer abstraction](https://github.com/rust-windowing/winit/pull/3876).
I have added code to emulate it using the current winit input
abstractions, but this entire thing will be much more robust when it
lands.
+ Rolls `pointer_events` `send_click_and_drag_events` and
`send_drag_over_events` into a single system, which operates directly on
`PointerEvent` and triggers observers as output.

The PR also improves docs and takes the opportunity to
refactor/streamline the pointer event dispatch logic.

## Status & Testing

This PR is now feature complete and documented. While it is
theoretically possible to add unit tests for the ordering, building the
picking mocking for that will take a little while.

Feedback on the chosen ordering of events is within-scope.

## Migration Guide

For users switching from `bevy_mod_picking` to `bevy_picking`:
+ Instead of adding an `On<T>` component, use `.observe(|trigger:
Trigger<T>|)`. You may now apply multiple handlers to the same entity
using this command.
+ Pointer interaction events now have semi-deterministic ordering which
(more or less) aligns with the order of the raw input stream. Consult
the docs on `bevy_picking::event::pointer_events` for current
information. You may need to adjust your event handling logic
accordingly.
+ `PointerCancel` has been replaced with `Pointer<Cancled>`, which now
has the semantics of an OS touch pointer cancel event.
+ `InputMove` and `InputPress` have been merged into `PointerInput`. The
use remains exactly the same.
+ Picking interaction events are now only accessible through observers,
and no `EventReader`. This functionality may be re-implemented later.

For users of `bevy_winit`:
+ The event `bevy_winit::WinitEvent` has moved to
`bevy_window::WindowEvent`. If this was the only thing you depended on
`bevy_winit` for, you should switch your dependency to `bevy_window`.
+ `bevy_window` now depends on `bevy_input`. The dependencies of
`bevy_input` are a subset of the existing dependencies for `bevy_window`
so this should be non-breaking.

fix: upgrade to winit v0.30 (#13366)
# Objective

- Upgrade winit to v0.30
- Fixes https://github.com/bevyengine/bevy/issues/13331

## Solution

This is a rewrite/adaptation of the new trait system described and
implemented in `winit` v0.30.

## Migration Guide

The custom UserEvent is now renamed as WakeUp, used to wake up the loop
if anything happens outside the app (a new
[custom_user_event](https://github.com/bevyengine/bevy/pull/13366/files#diff-2de8c0a8d3028d0059a3d80ae31b2bbc1cde2595ce2d317ea378fe3e0cf6ef2d)
shows this behavior.

The internal `UpdateState` has been removed and replaced internally by
the AppLifecycle. When changed, the AppLifecycle is sent as an event.

The `UpdateMode` now accepts only two values: `Continuous` and
`Reactive`, but the latter exposes 3 new properties to enable reactive
to device, user or window events. The previous `UpdateMode::Reactive` is
now equivalent to `UpdateMode::reactive()`, while
`UpdateMode::ReactiveLowPower` to `UpdateMode::reactive_low_power()`.

The `ApplicationLifecycle` has been renamed as `AppLifecycle`, and now
contains the possible values of the application state inside the event
loop:
* `Idle`: the loop has not started yet
* `Running` (previously called `Started`): the loop is running
* `WillSuspend`: the loop is going to be suspended
* `Suspended`: the loop is suspended
* `WillResume`: the loop is going to be resumed

Note: the `Resumed` state has been removed since the resumed app is just
running.

Finally, now that `winit` enables this, it extends the `WinitPlugin` to
support custom events.

then the music keeps playing when suspended.
    - non-blocking but worrying
- [ ]  Web: the application will hang when switching tabs

Ensure clean exit (#13236)
# Objective

Fixes two issues related to #13208.

First, we ensure render resources for a window are always dropped first
to ensure that the `winit::Window` always drops on the main thread when
it is removed from `WinitWindows`. Previously, changes in #12978 caused
the window to drop in the render world, causing issues.

We accomplish this by delaying despawning the window by a frame by
inserting a marker component `ClosingWindow` that indicates the window
has been requested to close and is in the process of closing. The render
world now responds to the equivalent `WindowClosing` event rather than
`WindowCloseed` which now fires after the render resources are
guarunteed to be cleaned up.

Secondly, fixing the above caused (revealed?) that additional events
were being delivered to the the event loop handler after exit had
already been requested: in my testing `RedrawRequested` and
`LoopExiting`. This caused errors to be reported try to send an exit
event on the close channel. There are two options here:
- Guard the handler so no additional events are delivered once the app
is exiting. I ~considered this but worried it might be confusing or bug
prone if in the future someone wants to handle `LoopExiting` or some
other event to clean-up while exiting.~ We are now taking this approach.
- Only send an exit signal if we are not already exiting. ~It doesn't
appear to cause any problems to handle the extra events so this seems
safer.~
 
Fixing this also appears to have fixed #13231.

Fixes #10260.

## Testing

Tested on mac only.

Move close_on_esc to bevy_dev_tools (#12855)
# Objective

- As @james7132 said [on
Discord](https://discord.com/channels/691052431525675048/692572690833473578/1224626740773523536),
the `close_on_esc` system is forcing `bevy_window` to depend on
`bevy_input`.
- `close_on_esc` is not likely to be used in production, so it arguably
does not have a place in `bevy_window`.

## Solution

- As suggested by @afonsolage, move `close_on_esc` into
`bevy_dev_tools`.
  - Add an example to the documentation too.
- Remove `bevy_window`'s dependency on `bevy_input`.
- Add `bevy_reflect`'s `smol_str` feature to `bevy_window` because it
was implicitly depended upon with `bevy_input` before it was removed.
- Remove any usage of `close_on_esc` from the examples.
- `bevy_dev_tools` is not enabled by default. I personally find it
frustrating to run examples with additional features, so I opted to
remove it entirely.
  - This is up for discussion if you have an alternate solution.

Add delta to CursorMoved event (#11710)
# Objective

- Fixes #11695

## Solution

- Added `delta: Option<Vec2>` to `bevy_window::CursorMoved`. `delta` is
an `Option` because the `CursorMoved` event does get fired when the
cursor was outside the window area in the last frame. In that case there
is no cursor position from the last frame to compare with the current
cursor position.

Cleanup bevy winit (#11489)
# Objective

Get #11257 changes merged.

I rewrote them one by one checking each to ensure correctness. In
particular, the window rescale logic changes to accomodate mut app
access are double checked. Not all changes have been included as some of
bevy_winit has since changed, and i am not confident including them.
Namely, the `run_app_update_if_should` change.

### Notes to reviewers

Review commits individually, use the "Hide whitespaces" diff display
mode.

## Changelog

### KeyCode changes

- Removed `ScanCode`, as it was [replaced by
KeyCode](https://github.com/rust-windowing/winit/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md#0292).
- `ReceivedCharacter.char` is now a `SmolStr`, [relevant
doc](https://docs.rs/winit/latest/winit/event/struct.KeyEvent.html#structfield.text).
- Changed most `KeyCode` values, and added more.

KeyCode has changed meaning. With this PR, it refers to physical
position on keyboard rather than the printed letter on keyboard keys.

In practice this means:
- On QWERTY keyboard layouts, nothing changes
- On any other keyboard layout, `KeyCode` no longer reflects the label
on key.
- This is "good". In bevy 0.12, when you used WASD for movement, users
with non-QWERTY keyboards couldn't play your game! This was especially
bad for non-latin keyboards. Now, WASD represents the physical keys. A
French player will press the ZQSD keys, which are near each other,
Kyrgyz players will use "Цфыв".
- This is "bad" as well. You can't know in advance what the label of the
key for input is. Your UI says "press WASD to move", even if in reality,
they should be pressing "ZQSD" or "Цфыв". You also no longer can use
`KeyCode` for text inputs. In any case, it was a pretty bad API for text
input. You should use `ReceivedCharacter` now instead.

- winit did split `run_return` in `run_onDemand` and `pump_events`, I
did the same change in bevy_winit and used `pump_events`.

- This winit change is done partly to allow to create a new window after
quitting all windows: https://github.com/emilk/egui/issues/1918 ; this

## Known regressions (important follow ups?)
- Provide an API for reacting when a specific key from current layout
was released.
- possible solutions: use winit::Key from winit::KeyEvent ; mapping
between KeyCode and Key ; or .
- We don't receive characters through alt+numpad (e.g. alt + 151 = "ù")
anymore ; reproduced on winit example "ime". maybe related to
https://github.com/rust-windowing/winit/issues/2945
- (windows) Window content doesn't refresh at all when resizing. By
reading https://github.com/rust-windowing/winit/issues/2900 ; I suspect
we should just fire a `window.request_redraw();` from `AboutToWait`, and
handle actual redrawing within `RedrawRequested`. I'm not sure how to
move all that code so I'd appreciate it to be a follow up.
- (windows) unreleased winit fix for using set_control_flow in
AboutToWait https://github.com/rust-windowing/winit/issues/3215 ; ⚠️ I'm
not sure what the implications are, but that feels bad 🤔

## Follow up 

I'd like to avoid bloating this PR, here are a few follow up tasks
worthy of a separate PR, or new issue to track them once this PR is
closed, as they would either complicate reviews, or at risk of being
controversial:

Application lifetime events (suspend audio on Android) (#10158)
# Objective

- Handle pausing audio when Android app is suspended

## Solution

- This is the start of application lifetime events. They are mostly
useful on mobile
- Next version of winit should add a few more
- When application is suspended, send an event to notify the
application, and run the schedule one last time before actually
suspending the app
- Audio is now suspended too 🎉

Fix the doc warning attribute and document remaining items for bevy_window (#9933)
# Objective

Complete the documentation for `bevy_window`.

## Solution

The `warn(missing_doc)` attribute was only applying to the `cursor`
module as it was declared as an inner attribute. I switched it to an
outer attribute and documented the remaining items.

Expose WindowDestroyed events (#9016)
# Objective

I'm creating an iOS game and had to find a way to persist game state
when the application is terminated. This required listening to the
[`applicationWillTerminate()`
method](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/uikit/uiapplicationdelegate/1623111-applicationwillterminate),
but I cannot do so myself anymore since `winit` already set up a
delegate to listen for it, and there can be only one delegate.

So I had to move up the stack and try to respond to one of the events
from `winit` instead. It appears `winit` fires two events that could
serve my purpose: `WindowEvent::Destroyed` and `Event::LoopDestroyed`.
It seemed to me the former might be slightly more generally useful, and
I also found a past discussion that suggested it would be appropriate
for Bevy to have a `WindowDestroyed` event:

## Solution

- I've added the `WindowDestroyed` event, which fires when `winit` fires
`WindowEvent::Destroyed`.

bevy_reflect: FromReflect Ergonomics Implementation (#6056)
# Objective

**This implementation is based on
https://github.com/bevyengine/rfcs/pull/59.**

Resolves #4597

Full details and motivation can be found in the RFC, but here's a brief
summary.

`FromReflect` is a very powerful and important trait within the
reflection API. It allows Dynamic types (e.g., `DynamicList`, etc.) to
be formed into Real ones (e.g., `Vec<i32>`, etc.).

This mainly comes into play concerning deserialization, where the
reflection deserializers both return a `Box<dyn Reflect>` that almost
always contain one of these Dynamic representations of a Real type. To
convert this to our Real type, we need to use `FromReflect`.

It also sneaks up in other ways. For example, it's a required bound for
`T` in `Vec<T>` so that `Vec<T>` as a whole can be made `FromReflect`.
It's also required by all fields of an enum as it's used as part of the
`Reflect::apply` implementation.

So in other words, much like `GetTypeRegistration` and `Typed`, it is
very much a core reflection trait.

The problem is that it is not currently treated like a core trait and is
not automatically derived alongside `Reflect`. This makes using it a bit
cumbersome and easy to forget.

## Solution

Automatically derive `FromReflect` when deriving `Reflect`.

Users can then choose to opt-out if needed using the
`#[reflect(from_reflect = false)]` attribute.

#### `ReflectFromReflect`

This PR also automatically adds the `ReflectFromReflect` (introduced in
#6245) registration to the derived `GetTypeRegistration` impl— if the
type hasn't opted out of `FromReflect` of course.

Discovered that PointLight did not implement FromReflect. Adding
FromReflect where Reflect is used. I overreached and applied this rule
everywhere there was a Reflect without a FromReflect, except from where
the compiler wouldn't allow me.

Require #[derive(Event)] on all Events (#7086)
# Objective

Be consistent with `Resource`s and `Components` and have `Event` types
be more self-documenting.
Although not susceptible to accidentally using a function instead of a
value due to `Event`s only being initialized by their type, much of the
same reasoning for removing the blanket impl on `Resource` also applies
here.

* Not immediately obvious if a type is intended to be an event
* Prevent invisible conflicts if the same third-party or primitive types
are used as events
* Allows for further extensions (e.g. opt-in warning for missed events)

## Solution

Remove the blanket impl for the `Event` trait. Add a derive macro for
it.

# Objective

In the
[`Text`](3442a13d2c/crates/bevy_text/src/text.rs (L18))
struct the field is named: `linebreak_behaviour`, the British spelling
of _behavior_.
**Update**, also found: 
- `FileDragAndDrop::HoveredFileCancelled` 
- `TouchPhase::Cancelled`
- `Touches.just_cancelled`

The majority of all spelling is in the US but when you have a lot of
contributors across the world, sometimes
spelling differences can pop up in APIs such as in this case. 

For consistency, I think it would be worth a while to ensure that the
API is persistent.

Some examples:
`from_reflect.rs` has `DefaultBehavior`
TextStyle has `color` and uses the `Color` struct.
In `bevy_input/src/Touch.rs` `TouchPhase::Cancelled` and _canceled_ are
used interchangeably in the documentation

I've found that there is also the same type of discrepancies in the
documentation, though this is a low priority but is worth checking.
**Update**: I've now checked the documentation (See #8291)

## Solution

I've only renamed the inconsistencies that have breaking changes and
documentation pertaining to them. The rest of the documentation will be
changed via #8291.

Do note that the winit API is written with UK spelling, thus this may be
a cause for confusion:
`winit::event::TouchPhase::Cancelled => TouchPhase::Canceled`
`winit::event::WindowEvent::HoveredFileCancelled` -> Related to
`FileDragAndDrop::HoveredFileCanceled`

But I'm hoping to maybe outline other spelling inconsistencies in the
API, and maybe an addition to the contribution guide.

a5d70b8952 Derive Reflect + FromReflect for window event types (#6235)
# Objective

The window event types currently don't support reflection. This PR adds support to them (as requested [here](https://github.com/bevyengine/bevy/issues/6223#issuecomment-1273852329)).

## Solution

Implement `Reflect` + `FromReflect` for window event types. Relevant traits are also being reflected with `#[reflect(...)]` attributes.

Additionally, this PR derives `Reflect` + `FromReflect` for `WindowDescriptor` and the types it depends on so that `CreateWindow` events can be fully manipulated through reflection.

Finally, this PR adds `FromReflect` for `PathBuf` as a value type, which is needed for `FileDragAndDrop`.

This adds the "glam" feature to the `bevy_reflect` dependency for package `bevy_window`. Since `bevy_window` transitively depends on `glam` already, all this brings in are the reflection `impl`s.

## Open questions

Should `app.register_type::<PathBuf>();` be moved to `CorePlugin`? I added it to `WindowPlugin` because that's where it's used and `CorePlugin` doesn't seem to register all the missing std types, but it would also make sense in `CorePlugin` I believe since it's a commonly used type.

## Other Notes

Some events in `bevy_input` had `f32` fields, so `Eq` trait was not derived for them.
Some events in `bevy_windows` had `String` fields, so `Copy` trait was not derived for them.

## Solution

I looked at the implementation of those events. I noticed that they both are adaptations of `winit`'s `DeviceEvent`/`WindowEvent` enum variants. Therefore I based the description of the items on the documentation provided by the upstream crate. I also added a link to `CursorMoved`, just like `MouseMotion` already has.

## Observations

- Looking at the implementation of `MouseMotion`, I noticed the `DeviceId` field of the `winit` event is discarded by `bevy_input`. This means that in the case a machine has multiple pointing devices, it is impossible to distinguish to which one the event is referring to. **EDIT:** just tested, `MouseMotion` events are emitted for movement of both mice.

2d674e7c3e Reduce power usage with configurable event loop (#3974)
# Objective

- Reduce power usage for games when not focused.
- Reduce power usage to ~0 when a desktop application is minimized (opt-in).
- Reduce power usage when focused, only updating on a `winit` event, or the user sends a redraw request. (opt-in)

## Solution

- Added a type `UpdateMode` that allows users to specify how the winit event loop is updated, without exposing winit types.
- Added two fields to `WinitConfig`, both with the `UpdateMode` type. One configures how the application updates when focused, and the other configures how the application behaves when it is not focused. Users can modify this resource manually to set the type of event loop control flow they want.
- For convenience, two functions were added to `WinitConfig`, that provide reasonable presets: `game()` (default) and `desktop_app()`.
    - The `game()` preset, which is used by default, is unchanged from current behavior with one exception: when the app is out of focus the app updates at a minimum of 10fps, or every time a winit event is received. This has a huge positive impact on power use and responsiveness on my machine, which will otherwise continue running the app at many hundreds of fps when out of focus or minimized.
    - The `desktop_app()` preset is fully reactive, only updating when user input (winit event) is supplied or a `RedrawRequest` event is sent. When the app is out of focus, it only updates on `Window` events - i.e. any winit event that directly interacts with the window. What this means in practice is that the app uses *zero* resources when minimized or not interacted with, but still updates fluidly when the app is out of focus and the user mouses over the application.
- Added a `RedrawRequest` event so users can force an update even if there are no events. This is useful in an application when you want to, say, run an animation even when the user isn't providing input.
- Added an example `low_power` to demonstrate these changes

## Usage

Configuring the event loop:
```rs
use bevy::winit::{WinitConfig};
// ...
.insert_resource(WinitConfig::desktop_app()) // preset

.insert_resource(WinitConfig::game()) // preset

## Other details

- Because we have a single event loop for multiple windows, every time I've mentioned "focused" above, I more precisely mean, "if at least one bevy window is focused".
- Due to a platform bug in winit (https://github.com/rust-windowing/winit/issues/1619), we can't simply use `Window::request_redraw()`. As a workaround, this PR will temporarily set the window mode to `Poll` when a redraw is requested. This is then reset to the user's `WinitConfig` setting on the next frame.
