The current code in reserve_noncached() has two issues:
1) The first update of gd->start_addr_sp always rounds down to a section
start. However, the equivalent calculation in cache.c:noncached_init()
always first rounds up to a section start, then subtracts a section size.
These two calculations differ if the initial value is already rounded to
section alignment.
2) The second update of gd->start_addr_sp subtracts exactly
CONFIG_SYS_NONCACHED_MEMORY, whereas the equivalent calculation in
cache.c:noncached_init() rounds the noncached size up to section
alignment before subtracting it. The two calculations differ if the
noncached region size is not a multiple of the MMU section size.
In practice, one/both of those issues causes a practical problem on
Jetson TX1; U-Boot triggers a synchronous abort during initialization,
likely due to overlapping use of some memory region.
This change fixes both these issues by duplicating the exact calculations
from noncached_init() into reserve_noncached().
However, this fix assumes that gd->start_addr_sp on entry to
reserve_noncached() exactly matches mem_malloc_start on entry to
noncached_init(). I haven't traced the code to see whether it absolutely
guarantees this in all (or indeed any!) cases. Consequently, I added some
comments in the hope that this condition will continue to be true.

This means that we cannot update the global data pointer of the main

OpenSBI FW_DYNAMIC firmware. It supports OpenSBI version 0.4 and higher.
In this configuration, U-Boot SPL starts in machine mode. After loading
OpenSBI and U-Boot proper, it will start OpenSBI. All necessary
parameters are generated by U-Boot SPL and are passed to OpenSBI. U-Boot
proper is started in supervisor mode by OpenSBI. Support for OpenSBI is
enabled with CONFIG_SPL_OPENSBI. An additional configuration entry,
CONFIG_SPL_OPENSBI_LOAD_ADDR, is used to specify the load address of the
OpenSBI firmware binary. It is not used directly in U-Boot and instead
is intended to make the value available to scripts such as FIT
configuration generators.

on the U-Boot device tree provider, the FIT image might not include a
device tree. Information on the loadables is missing in this case.
When booting via firmware bundled with the FIT image, U-Boot SPL loads
the firmware binary and U-Boot proper before starting the firmware. The
firmware, in turn, is responsible for starting U-Boot proper.
Information on the memory location of the U-Boot proper loadable must be
available to the SPL framework so that it can be passed to the firmware
binary. To support this use case when no device tree is found in the FIT
image, fall back to the U-Boot device tree in this situation.

This implements a stack usage check in SPL.
Many boards start up SPL to run code + data from one common, rather small
SRAM. To implement a sophisticated SPL binary size limit on such boards,
the stack size (as well as malloc size and global data size) must be
subtracted from this SRAM size.
However, to do that properly, the stack size first needs to be known.
This patch adds a new Kconfig option:
- SPL_SYS_REPORT_STACK_F_USAGE: memset(0xaa) the whole area of the stack
very early and check stack usage based on this constant later before the
stack is switched to DRAM
Initializing the stack and checking it is implemented in weak functions,
in case a board does not use the stack as saved in gd->start_addr_sp.

The Linux ramdisk should always be decompressed by the kernel itself,
not by U-Boot. Therefore, the 'compression' node in the FIT image should
always be set to "none" for ramdisk images, since the only point of
using that node is if you want U-Boot to do the decompression itself.
Yet some systems populate the node to the compression algorithm used by
the kernel instead. This used to be ignored, but now that we support
decompression of all image types it becomes a problem. Since ramdisks
should never be decompressed by U-Boot anyway, this patch adds a special
exception for them to avoid these issues. Still, setting the
'compression' node like that is wrong in the first place, so we still
want to print out a warning so that third-party distributions doing this

able to initialize and load from a variety of boot media however it
is strongly geared towards loading specific types of images in a very
specific way. To address the need being able to use this infrastructure
to load arbitrary image files go ahead and refactor it as follows:
- Refactor existing spl_mmc_load_image function into superset function,
accepting additional arguments such as filenames and media load offset
(same concept can also be applied toother spl_XXX_load_image functions)
- Extend the loader function to "remember" their peripheral initialization
status so that the init is only done once during the boot process,
- Extend the FIT image loading function to allow skipping the parsing/
processing of the FIT contents (so that this can be done separately
in a more customized fashion)
- Populate the SPL_LOAD_IMAGE_METHOD() list with a trampoline function,
invoking the newly refactored superset functions in a way to maintain
compatibility with the existing behavior
This refactoring initially covers MMC/SD card loading (RAW and FS-based).

The motivation is to use the UBI atomic volume rename functionality to
allow double copy software updates on UBI. To that end the SPL is
configured to always load the same volume name (e.g. "u-boot"),
whereas a software updater always installs into the secondary volume
"u-boot_r". After successful installation, these two volume names are
switched.
This extension is protected by #ifdefs as it will somewhat slow down
loading of volumes by id. This is because the code needs to disable
the optimization of ignoring all volume ids which are not
to-be-loaded, since these can only be resolved after attaching.
This adds two vtbl related functions from Linux, which are taken from
the same kernel version as the current main U-Boot UBI code (Linux 4.2

The initr_watchdog is currently placed before initr_serial. The
initr_watchdog calls printf and printf finally calls ops->putc of a serial
driver.
However, gd->cur_serial_dev points to a udevice allocated in board_f. The
gd->cur_serial_dev->driver->ops->putc points the the code region before
relocation.
Some serial drivers call WATCHDOG_RESET() in ops->putc. When DM is enabled
for watchdog, watchdog_reset() is called. watchdog_reset() calls get_timer
to get current timer.
On some platforms the timer driver is also a DM driver. initr_watchdog is
placed right after initr_dm, which means the timer driver hasn't been
initialized. So dm_timer_init() is called. To create a new udevice, calloc
is called.
However start from ops->putc, u-boot execution flow is redirected into the
memory region before relocation (board_f). In board_f, dlmalloc hasn't
been initialized. The call to calloc will fail, and this will cause DM to
print out an error message, and it will call printf again, causing
recursive error outputs.
This patch places initr_watchdog after initr_serial to solve this issue.

By default the configuration of the PMC is to have an external crystal
connected that requires driving on both XIN and XOUT pins.
The bypass configuration means that only XIN will be used, the SoC will not
do any driving, and the XIN needs to be provided with a proper signal.
This is the MOSCXTBY bit in the PMC main clock generator register.
The SPL needs to properly initialize the PMC registers before switching
to external clock signal and raising the clock to the cruise speed.

The FIT image could contain the splash data in 3 different structure:
- The splash data is embedded in FIT image (internal)
In this case, the property 'data' presents in FIT image header. And
internal information 'start' and 'end' represent the location and
size of splash data inside of FIT image.
- The splash data is external with absolute position in FIT image
This case is made by 'mkimage -p [pos]'. The splash data is stored
at the absolute position. Instead the property 'data', the properties
'data-position' and 'data-size' are used to specify the location and
size of the splash data.
- the splash data is external with relative offset in FIT image
This case is made by 'mkimage -E'. The splash data is placed after
the FIT image header with 4 byte alignment. Instead the property
'data', the properties 'data-offset' and 'data-size' are used to
specify the location and size of the splash data.
Currently, the splash only support to load external data with relative
offset from FIT image. This commit make it possible to load the splash
data embedded in FIT image or the external data with absolute position

The splash image could be loaded from different sources (e.g. sf, mmc)
with different formats (e.g. raw, file-system). These sources are
structured by a board dependent object 'splash_location'. To decide
where is the splash image loaded, following environment variables are
used to select the splash source and file:
- 'splashsource' is used to select the splash source by setting its
value to specified name of splash location.
- 'splashfile' specify the name of splash image file
But, when loads the splash image from FIT, the name of splash image
within FIT is specified by splash location name. Due to the splash
location name is already used for the splash source, its name may
conflicts with the name of splash image.
To solve the conflict, the environment variable 'splashfile' is used
to specify the splash image in FIT, and keeps the splash location
name for the splash source.

This patch tries to implement a generic watchdog_reset() function that
can be used by all boards that want to service the watchdog device in
U-Boot. This watchdog servicing is enabled via CONFIG_WATCHDOG.
Without this approach, new boards or platforms needed to implement a
board specific version of this functionality, mostly copy'ing the same
code over and over again into their board or platforms code base.
With this new generic function, the scattered other functions are now
removed to be replaced by the generic one. The new version also enables
the configuration of the watchdog timeout via the DT "timeout-sec"
property (if enabled via CONFIG_OF_CONTROL).
This patch also adds a new flag to the GD flags, to flag that the
watchdog is ready to use and adds the pointer to the watchdog device
to the GD. This enables us to remove the global "watchdog_dev"
variable, which was prone to cause problems because of its potentially
very early use in watchdog_reset(), even before the BSS is cleared.

At present if one of the initcalls fails on sandbox the address printing
is not help, e.g.:
initcall sequence 0000557678967c80 failed at call 00005576709dfe1f (err=-96)
This is because U-Boot gets relocated high into memory and the relocation
offset (gd->reloc_off) does not work correctly for sandbox.
Add support for finding the base address of the text region (at least on
Linux) and use that to set the relocation offset. This makes the output
better:
initcall sequence 0000560775957c80 failed at call 0000000000048134 (err=-96)
Then you use can use grep to see which init call failed, e.g.:
$ grep 0000000000048134 u-boot.map
stdio_add_devices
Of course another option is to run it with a debugger such as gdb:
$ gdb u-boot

When using boot scripts it can become quite hard to understand
which commands are actually executed during bootup (e.g. where
is a kernel image loaded from or which DTB is in use).
Shell scripts suffer from a similar problem and many shells address
this problem with a command execution tracer (e.g. BASH has xtrace,
which can be enabled by "set -x").
This patch introduces a command tracer for U-Boot, which prints
every command with its arguments before it is executed.

Our platform doesn't store the DTB into the Android image second area,
but rather copies the DTB to RAM from a dedicated dtb.img partition [0],
prior to booting the Android image by calling bootm.
Similar to [1], we find it useful to just call 'bootm' and have the
right DTB being passed to OS (assuming its address has been previously
stored in 'fdtaddr' by calling `fdt addr <dtb-addr>`).
Booting Android with DTB from 'fdtaddr' will only occur if:
- No DTB is embedded in the second area of Android image
- 'fdtaddr' points to a valid DTB in RAM

The 'no_fdt' goto label was introduced by v2015.01 commit [0] and it
had two review stages [1-2]. The *documented* purpose behind commit [0]
is (excerpt from commit description):
> allows both FDT and non-FDT kernels to boot by making the
> third parameter to the bootm/bootz optional
While [1] and [2] share the same goal, they have very different
implementations:
- [1] was based on a very simple 'argc' check at function error out
with returning success to the caller if the third parameter was NOT
passed to bootm/bootz command. This approach had the downside of
returning success to the caller even in case of legitimate internal
errors, which should halt booting.
- [2] added the "no_fdt" label and several "goto no_fdt" statements.
This allowed to report the legitimate internal errors to the caller.
IOW the major difference between [1] and [2] is:
- [1] boot w/o FDT if FDT address is not passed to boot{m,z,*}
- [2] give *freedom* to the developer to boot w/o FDT from any
(more or less) arbitrary point in the function flow (and here
comes the peculiar aspect, which looks to be a leftover from [1])
with the precondition that the 3rd argument (FDT address) is NOT
provided to boot{m,z,*}. In practice, this means that only a subset
of "goto no_fdt" end up booting w/o FDT while the other subset is
returning an error to the caller.
This patch removes the peculiar behavior described above, such that
"goto no_fdt" performs really what it tells to the developer.
The motivation of this patch is to decrease the unneeded complexity
and increase the readability of boot_get_fdt().

Paranoid programming [1] lies at the foundation of proper software
development, but the repetitive zeroing-out of output arguments in the
context of the same function rather clutters the code and inhibits
further refactoring/optimization than is doing any good.
In boot_get_fdt(), we already perform zero/NULL-initialization of
*of_flat_tree and *of_size at the beginning of the function, so doing
the same at function error-out is redundant/superfluous.
Moreover, keeping the code unchanged might encourage the developers to
update *of_flat_tree and *of_size during some interim computations,
which is against the current design of boot_get_fdt(). Currently,
writing useful data into these arguments happens just before
successfully returning from boot_get_fdt() and it should better stay so.

It works perfectly fine to boot an Android boot.img with bootm command
followed by an explicit address argument that holds the image. But if
we have boot.img downloaded into default 'loadaddr', and then boot it
using bootm command without the address argument, we will run into
problem, because U-Boot fails to find ramdisk and fdt (second area) in
boot.img.
The current Android image support assumes there is always an address
argument on bootm command. However just like booting any other images,
'loadaddr' should be used when address argument is missing from bootm
command. It patches boot_get_ramdisk() and boot_get_fdt() a bit to
support this quite common usage of bootm command for Android image.

So far arrows key pressed on an USB keyboard got translated to some
low ASCII control sequences (Ctrl+N, Ctrl+P). Some programs understand
these codes, but the standard for those keys is to use ANSI control
sequences for cursor movement (ESC [ A).
Our own boot menu is a victim of this, currently we cannot change the

Since we already implement a queue for USB key codes, we can just insert
the three character ANSI sequence into the key buffer. This fixes the

commit 96907c0fe5 ("dm: spi: Read default speed and mode values from DT")
In case of DT boot, don't read default speed and mode for SPI from
CONFIG_* but instead read from DT node. This will make sure that boards
with multiple SPI/QSPI controllers can be probed at different
bus frequencies and SPI modes.
Remove also use in boards of the value speed=0 (no more supported)
for ENV in SPI by using CONFIG_ENV_SPI_MAX_HZ=0.
DT values will be always used when available (full DM support of
SPI slave with available DT node) even if speed and mode are requested;
for example in splash screen support (in splash_sf_read_raw)
or in SPL boot (in spl_spi_load_image).
The caller of spi_get_bus_and_cs() no more need to force speed=0.
But the current behavior don't change if the SPI slave is not
present (device with generic driver is created automatically)
or if platdata is used (CONFIG_OF_PLATDATA).

CLI support with the HUSH parser is not currently SPL safe due to it's
use of realloc. That function is not defined for SPLs that use
SYS_MALLOC_SIMPLE. CLI support can be built in to SPL and some functions
do work, but use of some like run_command() will cause build to fail.
When no SPL code calls this function build works as the compiler removes
this unreachable code so the unresolved symbols are ignored.
If DFU support is enabled in SPL then MMU DFU support may get brought in
also, this code does make a call to run_command() causing build to fail
if the HUSH parser is not built-in. To break this odd and unneeded
dependency chain we use CONFIG_IS_ENABLED where appropriate to prevent
calls into HUSH code from SPL. This also removes our need to pull in the
rather unrelated source file when SPL_DFU is defined.

to overcome limitations in their respective DMA implementation.
This moves the configuration to Kconfig and makes it user-selectable
(even though it will be a required feature to make those drivers
work): the expected usage is for drivers depending on this to 'select'
it unconditionally from their respective Kconfig (see follow-up

This commit includes a full migration using moveconfig.py to ensure
that each commit compiles. To ensure bisectability we update

Replace the ->repeatable field by an extended ->cmd() hook (called

With this trick, we can let sub-commands decide whether they are

while (!tstc()) {

if (tstc())
*c = getc();
and getc() does a watchdog reset only if it fails to see a character.
In this case, getc() always sees a character and never does a
watchdog reset. So to make sure that watchdog doesn't get reset
while loading the file, do a watchdog reset just before starting the

Implement functions in imx common SPL codes to call HAB funtion
to authenticate the FIT image. Generally, we have to sign multiple regions
in FIT image:
1. Sign FIT FDT data (configuration)
2. Sign FIT external data (Sub-images)
Because the CSF supports to sign multiple memory blocks, so that we can use one
signature to cover all regions in FIT image and only authenticate once.
The authentication should be done after the entire FIT image is loaded into
memory including all sub-images.
We use "-p" option to generate FIT image to reserve a space for FIT IVT

then it might want to pass the size of SDRAM, or the location of each

Add a new 'bloblist' feature which provides this. A bloblist is set up in
the first phase of U-Boot that runs (i.e. TPL or SPL). The location of
this info may be in SRAM or CAR (x86 cache-as-RAM) or somewhere else.
Information placed in this region is preserved (with a checksum) through

At present these features are supported in SPL but not TPL. Update the
Kconfig and Makefile to allow this.
Also add a few Makefile comments to make earier to track what is going on.

This function is really just a call to uclass_get_device() and there is no
reason why the caller cannot do it. Update sandbox and snow accordingly.

A specially crafted FIT image leads to memory corruption in the stack
when using the verified boot feature. The function fit_config_check_sig
has a logic error that makes it possible to write past the end of the
stack allocated array node_inc. This could potentially be used to bypass
the signature check when using verified boot.
This change ensures that the number of strings is correct when counted.

part_init() is currently called in every DM BLK driver, either
in its bind() or probe() method. However we can use the BLK
uclass driver's post_probe() method to do it automatically.
Update all DM BLK drivers to adopt this change.

It was observed that current output of print_cpuinfo() on QEMU
x86 targets does not have an ending '\n', neither have a leading
'CPU:' any more. However it used to have these before.
It turns out commit c0434407b5 introduced a unified DM version
of print_cpuinfo() that exposed such issue on QEMU x86.

When the DM CPU drivers are active, printing information about a CPU
should be delegated to a matching driver.
Hence, add a static print_cpuinfo that implements this delegation when
DM CPU drivers are active.

This reverts commit c0434407b5.
It turns out commit c0434407b5 broke some boards which have DM CPU
driver with CONFIG_DISPLAY_CPUINFO option on. These boards just fail
to boot when print_cpuinfo() is called during boot.
Fixes are already sent to ML and in u-boot-dm/next, however since
we are getting close to the v2018.11 release, it's safer we revert
the original commit.
This commit should be reverted after v2018.11 release.

In upcoming freescale board LX2160AQDS, the MDIO bus is muxed.
i.e. same MDIO bus can be routed to eight different slots depending
on mux register settings.
To support this mdio mux behavior, we add each MDIO bus mux as a
separate MDIO bus.
Now, various phy devices can be attached to each of these slots(mux).
The information about these devices is passed to OS via device tree.
To do the fdt fixups related to MDIO bus, its necessary that MDIO bus
list is accessed. Therefore, add a function to retrieve the list head.

This patch partially reverts:
"spl: fit: Add support for loading FPGA bitstream"
(sha1: 26a642238b)
There shouldn't be a need to call private spl_load_fpga_image function
because the whole sequence should be already handled by fpga framework.
If there is missing loading bistream by chunks it should be done via
fpga framework instead of having private hooks.
Also spl_load_fpga_image() weak function is not used anywhere and
opening a way for not reviewed hacks out of mainline U-Boot is not the
right way to go.
