Brute Force

Detection

Monitor authentication logs for multiple failed login attempts from the same source IP address. Look for patterns indicating systematic attempts to guess passwords.

Exploitation
  1. Use tools like Medusa or Hydra to automate the brute force attack.
  2. Create custom wordlists based on known information about the target.
  3. Implement rate limiting on authentication attempts to prevent brute force attacks.
Prevention
  1. Implement account lockout policies to lock out users after a certain number of failed login attempts.
  2. Use complex and unique passwords to make brute force attacks more difficult.
  3. Consider implementing multi-factor authentication to add an extra layer of security.
