The baudrate configured in .config is taken by default by serial. If
change of baudrate is required then the .config needs to changed and
u-boot recompilation is required or the u-boot environment needs to be
updated.
To avoid this, support is added to fetch the baudrate directly from the
device tree file and update.
The serial, prints the log with the configured baudrate in the dtb.
The commit c4df0f6f31 ("arm: mvebu: Espressobin: Set default value for
$fdtfile env variable") is taken as reference for changing the default
environment variable.
The default environment stores the default baudrate value, When default
baudrate and dtb baudrate are not same glitches are seen on the serial.
So, the environment also needs to be updated with the dtb baudrate to
avoid the glitches on the serial.
Also add test to cover this new function.

After converting my targets from CFG_EXTRA_ENV_SETTINGS to
CONFIG_EXTRA_ENV_TEXT as suggested by Tom, I discovered that
fw_setenv doesn't set the entire defaut environment anymore.
I tried to fix it with the below patch, but it fails qemu-x86 CI test,
see https://source.denx.de/u-boot/custodians/u-boot-mpc8xx/-/pipelines/16326
That's the only CI test that fails AFAICS.
Could you help with a solution ? This needs to be fixed.

Subject: [RFC PATCH] envtools: Fix default environment
After converting some targets from CFG_EXTRA_ENV_SETTINGS to
CONFIG_EXTRA_ENV_TEXT, default environment embedded in
fw_env tool missed all extra settings.
Commit 86b9c3e4e4 ("env: Allow U-Boot scripts to be placed in
a .env file") restricted the inclusion of the content of that
file to builds without USE_HOSTCC.
But as mentionned in commit 79fc0c5f49 ("tools/env: cross-compile
fw_printenv without setting HOSTCC"), HOSTCC and USE_HOSTCC are
kept for code re-use.
Remove the restricting so that settings included in a .env
file are also added to fw_env tool.

This converts the following to Kconfig:
CONFIG_GATEWAYIP
CONFIG_HOSTNAME
CONFIG_IPADDR
CONFIG_NETMASK
CONFIG_ROOTPATH
CONFIG_SERVERIP
CONFIG_UBOOTPATH
To do this, we introduce a CONFIG_USE_ form of each of the above and
change include/env_default.h to test for that to be set before setting a
value. Further, we don't want to stringify the IP address related values
as they are now properly strings via Kconfig.

Due to usage of PREBOOT in Kconfig, macro CONFIG_PREBOOT is always defined
when CONFIG_USE_PREBOOT is enabled. In case CONFIG_PREBOOT is not
explicitly enabled it is set to empty C string and therefore
'#ifdef CONFIG_PREBOOT' guard does not work. Fix this issue by introducing
a new Kconfig symbol PREBOOT_DEFINED which cause to define new C macro
CONFIG_PREBOOT_DEFINED only when CONFIG_PREBOOT is really defined.
Change usage of '#ifdef CONFIG_PREBOOT' by '#ifdef CONFIG_USE_PREBOOT' for
code which checks if preboot code would be called and by
'#ifdef CONFIG_PREBOOT_DEFINED' for defining preboot code.

The "autoload" environment variable is always checked with env_get_yesno
as it can be set to any form of no. The default behavior of
env_get_yesno is to return -1 on variables that are not set, which acts
as true in general (we test for non-zero return). To convert
CONFIG_SYS_AUTOLOAD to Kconfig, given that it was almost always used to
set autoload to no, first rename to CONFIG_SYS_DISABLE_AUTOLOAD for
consistency sake. Then, make it so that if enabled we set autoload=0 in
the default environment. Migrate all platforms which set
CONFIG_SYS_AUTOLOAD to non-true or that set autoload to false in their
default environment to using CONFIG_SYS_DISABLE_AUTOLOAD

Largely, the use of CONFIG_EXTRA_ENV_SETTINGS can be migrated directly
to come from CONFIG_EXTRA_ENV_TEXT. The biggest case that cannot easily
be migrated is distro_bootcmd support. Rather than block migration on
this, remove the #error here so that we can being moving forward.

At present U-Boot environment variables, and thus scripts, are defined
by CONFIG_EXTRA_ENV_SETTINGS. It is painful to add large amounts of text
to this file and dealing with quoting and newlines is harder than it
should be. It would be better if we could just type the script into a
text file and have it included by U-Boot.
Add a feature that brings in a .env file associated with the board
config, if present. To use it, create a file in a board/<vendor>
directory, typically called <board>.env and controlled by the
CONFIG_ENV_SOURCE_FILE option.
The environment variables should be of the form "var=value". Values can
extend to multiple lines. See the README under 'Environment Variables:'
for more information and an example.
In many cases environment variables need access to the U-Boot CONFIG
variables to select different options. Enable this so that the environment
scripts can be as useful as the ones currently in the board config files.
This uses the C preprocessor, means that comments can be included in the
environment using /* ... */
Also support += to allow variables to be appended to. This is needed when
using the preprocessor.

It can be useful to use the same U-Boot binary for multiple purposes,
say the normal one, one for developers that allow breaking into the
U-Boot shell, and one for use during bootstrapping which runs a
special-purpose bootcmd. Or one can have several board variants that
can share almost all boot logic, but just needs a few tweaks in the
variables used by the boot script.
To that end, allow the control dtb to contain a /config/enviroment
node (or whatever one puts in fdt_env_path variable), whose
property/value pairs are used to update the run-time environment after
it has been loaded from its persistent location.
The indirection via fdt_env_path is for maximum flexibility - for
example, should the user wish (or board logic dictate) that the values
in the DTB should no longer be applied, one simply needs to delete the
fdt_env_path variable; that can even be done automatically by
including a
fdt_env_path = "";
property in the DTB node.

The test for (CONFIG_BOOTDELAY >= 0) has been in U-Boot since the
beginning, but the meaning of it has changed over time. Allow the
default to be set for any value, including -ve ones. This allows
(for example) CONFIG_ENV_IS_NOWHERE to have values for bootdelay in
its compiled in environment.
The only thing this changes is where the default for bootdelay can be
fetched from; before this change you get a compiled in default, after
you'll pull it from the default value in the environment, but both values
will be the same. Also if there's a value set in the environment then
that will take precedence (as before).

When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and
there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the
area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it
with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the
Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first
line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line)
and with slightly different comment styles than us.
In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility
and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style.
This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared
license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag
contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag
and have introduced one.

Modifying the default environment via CONFIG_EXTRA_ENV_SETTINGS is
somewhat inflexible, partly because the cpp language does not allow
appending to an existing macro. This prevents reuse of "environment
fragments" for different boards, which in turn makes maintaining that
environment consistently tedious and error-prone.
This implements a Kconfig option for allowing one to define the entire
default environment in an external file, which can then, for example, be
generated programmatically as part of a Yocto recipe, or simply be kept
in version control separately from the U-boot repository.

Commit 7653942b10 ("common/env_embedded.c: drop support for
CONFIG_SYS_USE_PPCENV") dropped the .ppcenv section which was
used in linking scripts to allow fine placement of embedded
environment sections.
This implies that GCC randomly places objects from env/embedded.o
and environment is not guaranteed to be located at the correct address:
04003df8 g F .text 00000038 mii_init
04004000 g O .text 00000004 env_size
04004004 g O .text 00002000 environment
04006004 g F .text 00000040 .hidden __lshrdi3
This patch restores this capability by allocating each object marked
with __UBOOT_ENV_SECTION__ into a different section. Hence
'environment' will be alone in .text.environment, allowing a
fine placement in u-boot.lds with:
. = DEFINED(env_offset) ? env_offset : .;
env/embedded.o (.text.environment)

CONFIG_ENV_VARS_UBOOT_CONFIG creates environment variables indicating
which configuration U-Boot was built for. Some U-Boot binaries run on
multiple boards, and hence this information may not uniquley describe
the HW that U-Boot is actually running on. Another patch introduces
environment variable board_name to represent that. In order to avoid
scripts having to check $board_name, use it if set, and then fall back
to using $board, make CONFIG_ENV_VARS_UBOOT_CONFIG also set a default
value for board_name, so that variable is always available.
