90afb207eb Remove identity_future indirection
This was previously needed because the indirection used to hide some unexplained lifetime errors, which it turned out were related to the `min_choice` algorithm.

Removing the indirection also solves a couple of cycle errors, large moves and makes async blocks support the `#[track_caller]` annotation.

783b55ec82 Rename many interner functions.
(This is a large commit. The changes to
`compiler/rustc_middle/src/ty/context.rs` are the most important ones.)

The current naming scheme is a mess, with a mix of `_intern_`, `intern_`
and `mk_` prefixes, with little consistency. In particular, in many
cases it's easy to use an iterator interner when a (preferable) slice
interner is available.

The guiding principles of the new naming system:
- No `_intern_` prefixes.
- The `intern_` prefix is for internal operations.
- The `mk_` prefix is for external operations.
- For cases where there is a slice interner and an iterator interner,
  the former is `mk_foo` and the latter is `mk_foo_from_iter`.

Also, `slice_interners!` and `direct_interners!` can now be `pub` or
non-`pub`, which helps enforce the internal/external operations
division.

It's not perfect, but I think it's a clear improvement.

The following lists show everything that was renamed.

slice_interners
- const_list
  - mk_const_list -> mk_const_list_from_iter
  - intern_const_list -> mk_const_list
- substs
  - mk_substs -> mk_substs_from_iter

- poly_existential_predicates
  - mk_poly_existential_predicates -> mk_poly_existential_predicates_from_iter
  - intern_poly_existential_predicates -> mk_poly_existential_predicates
  - _intern_poly_existential_predicates -> intern_poly_existential_predicates
- predicates
  - mk_predicates -> mk_predicates_from_iter
  - intern_predicates -> mk_predicates
  - _intern_predicates -> intern_predicates
- projs
  - intern_projs -> mk_projs
- place_elems
  - mk_place_elems -> mk_place_elems_from_iter
  - intern_place_elems -> mk_place_elems
- bound_variable_kinds
  - mk_bound_variable_kinds -> mk_bound_variable_kinds_from_iter
  - intern_bound_variable_kinds -> mk_bound_variable_kinds

Implement `deferred_projection_equality` for erica solver

Somewhat of a revival of #96912. When relating projections now emit an `AliasEq` obligation instead of attempting to determine equality of projections that may not be as normalized as possible (i.e. because of lazy norm, or just containing inference variables that prevent us from resolving an impl). Only do this when the new solver is enabled

17369f324c Auto merge of #106227 - bryangarza:ctfe-limit, r=oli-obk
Use stable metric for const eval limit instead of current terminator-based logic

This patch adds a `MirPass` that inserts a new MIR instruction `ConstEvalCounter` to any loops and function calls in the CFG. This instruction is used during Const Eval to count against the `const_eval_limit`, and emit the `StepLimitReached` error, replacing the current logic which uses Terminators only.

The new method of counting loops and function calls should be more stable across compiler versions (i.e., not cause crates that compiled successfully before, to no longer compile when changes to the MIR generation/optimization are made).

a64940f948 Auto merge of #106745 - m-ou-se:format-args-ast, r=oli-obk
Move format_args!() into AST (and expand it during AST lowering)

Implements https://github.com/rust-lang/compiler-team/issues/541

This moves FormatArgs from rustc_builtin_macros to rustc_ast_lowering. For now, the end result is the same. But this allows for future changes to do smarter things with format_args!(). It also allows Clippy to directly access the ast::FormatArgs, making things a lot easier.

This change turns the format args types into lang items. The builtin macro used to refer to them by their path. After this change, the path is no longer relevant, making it easier to make changes in `core`.

This updates clippy to use the new language items, but this doesn't yet make clippy use the ast::FormatArgs structure that's now available. That should be done after this is merged.

48b10feedb Split MacArgs in two.
`MacArgs` is an enum with three variants: `Empty`, `Delimited`, and `Eq`. It's
used in two ways:
- For representing attribute macro arguments (e.g. in `AttrItem`), where all
  three variants are used.
- For representing function-like macros (e.g. in `MacCall` and `MacroDef`),
  where only the `Delimited` variant is used.

In other words, `MacArgs` is used in two quite different places due to them
having partial overlap. I find this makes the code hard to read. It also leads
to various unreachable code paths, and allows invalid values (such as
accidentally using `MacArgs::Empty` in a `MacCall`).

This commit splits `MacArgs` in two:
- `DelimArgs` is a new struct just for the "delimited arguments" case. It is
  now used in `MacCall` and `MacroDef`.
- `AttrArgs` is a renaming of the old `MacArgs` enum for the attribute macro
  case. Its `Delimited` variant now contains a `DelimArgs`.

Various other related things are renamed as well.

These changes make the code clearer, avoids several unreachable paths, and
disallows the invalid values.

Improve spans for RPITIT object-safety errors

No reason why we can't point at the `impl Trait` that causes the object-safety violation.

f2d83ed1ac Use token::Lit in ast::ExprKind::Lit.
Instead of `ast::Lit`.

Literal lowering now happens at two different times. Expression literals
are lowered when HIR is crated. Attribute literals are lowered during
parsing.

This commit changes the language very slightly. Some programs that used
to not compile now will compile. This is because some invalid literals
that are removed by `cfg` or attribute macros will no longer trigger
errors. See this comment for more details:

dff041f2b5 Rollup merge of #103625 - WaffleLapkin:no_tyctxt_dogs_allowed, r=compiler-errors
Accept `TyCtxt` instead of `TyCtxtAt` in `Ty::is_*` functions

Functions in answer:

- `Ty::is_freeze`
- `Ty::is_sized`
- `Ty::is_unpin`
- `Ty::is_copy_modulo_regions`

This allows to remove a lot of useless `.at(DUMMY_SP)`, making the code a bit nicer :3

efca32e23a Rename some OwnerId fields.
spastorino noticed some silly expressions like `item_id.def_id.def_id`.

This commit renames several `def_id: OwnerId` fields as `owner_id`, so
those expressions become `item_id.owner_id.def_id`.

`item_id.owner_id.local_def_id` would be even clearer, but the use of
`def_id` for values of type `LocalDefId` is *very* widespread, so I left
that alone.
