Fixes some minor config inconsistencies:
- Add default value for `shape_glob_interpolation` to light theme, as it
is missing
- Add right padding space to `shape_garbage` options
- Use a integer value for `footer_mode` instead of a string
- Set `buffer_editor` to null instead of empty string

# Description
Add `README.md` files to each crate in our workspace (-plugins) and also
include it in the `lib.rs` documentation for <docs.rs> (if there is no
existing `lib.rs` crate documentation)
In all new README I added the defensive comment that the crates are not
considered stable for public consumption. If necessary we can adjust
this if we deem a crate useful for plugin authors.
# Description
This PR introduces a new `Signals` struct to replace our adhoc passing
around of `ctrlc: Option<Arc<AtomicBool>>`. Doing so has a few benefits:
- We can better enforce when/where resetting or triggering an interrupt
is allowed.
- Consolidates `nu_utils::ctrl_c::was_pressed` and other ad-hoc
re-implementations into a single place: `Signals::check`.
- This allows us to add other types of signals later if we want. E.g.,
exiting or suspension.
- Similarly, we can more easily change the underlying implementation if
we need to in the future.
- Places that used to have a `ctrlc` of `None` now use
`Signals::empty()`, so we can double check these usages for correctness
in the future.
In this pull request, I converted the `perf` function within `nu_utils`
to a macro. This change facilitates easier usage within plugins by
allowing the use of `env_logger` and setting `RUST_LOG=nu_plugin_polars`
(or another plugin). Without this conversion, the `RUST_LOG` variable
would need to be set to `RUST_LOG=nu_utils::utils`, which is less
intuitive and impossible to narrow the perf results to one plugin.

# Description
Just missed this during #13089. Adds `shape_glob_interpolation` to the
config.
This actually isn't really going to be seen at all yet, so I debated
whether it's really needed at all. It's only used to highlight the
quotes themselves, and we don't have any quoted glob interpolations at
the moment.
# Description
This PR is an attempt to add a standard location for people to put
completions in. I saw this topic come up again recently and IIRC we
decided to create a standard location. I used the dirs-next crate to
dictate where these locations are. I know some people won't like that
but at least this gets the ball rolling in a direction that has a
standard directory.
This is what the default NU_LIB_DIRS looks like now in the
default_env.nu. It should also be like this when starting nushell with
`nu -n`
```nushell
$env.NU_LIB_DIRS = [
($nu.default-config-dir | path join 'scripts') # add <nushell-config-dir>/scripts
($nu.data-dir | path join 'completions') # default home for nushell completions
]
```
I also added these default folders to the `$nu` variable so now there is
`$nu.data-path` and `$nu.cache-path`.

Configuration in `explore` has always been confusing to me. This PR
overhauls (and simplifies, I think) how configuration is done.
# Details
1. Configuration is now strongly typed. In `Explore::run()` we create an
`ExploreConfig` struct from the more general Nu configuration and
arguments to `explore`, then pass that struct to other parts of
`explore` that need configuration. IMO this is a lot easier to reason
about and trace than the previous approach of creating a
`HashMap<String, Value>` and then using that to make various structs
elsewhere.
2. We now inherit more configuration from the config used for regular Nu
tables
1. Border/line styling now uses the `separator` style used for regular
Nu tables, the special `explore.split_line` config point has been
retired.
2. Cell padding in tables is now controlled by `table.padding` instead
of the undocumented `column_padding_left`/`column_padding_right` config
3. The (optional, previously not enabled by default) `selected_row` and
`selected_column` configuration has been removed. We now only highlight
the selected cell. I could re-add this if people really like the feature
but I'm guessing nobody uses it.
The interface still looks the same with a default/empty config.nu:

# Description
This PR overhauls the shell_integration system by allowing individual
control over which ansi escape sequences are used. As we continue to
broaden our support for more ansi escape sequences, we can't really have
an all-or-nothing strategy. Some ansi escapes cause problems in certain
operating systems or terminals. We should allow the user to choose which
escapes they want.

# User-Facing Changes
shell_integration is no longer a boolean value. This is what is
supported in the default_config.nu
```nushell
shell_integration: {
# osc2 abbreviates the path if in the home_dir, sets the tab/window title, shows the running command in the tab/window title
osc2: true
# osc7 is a way to communicate the path to the terminal, this is helpful for spawning new tabs in the same directory
osc7: true
# osc8 is also implemented as the deprecated setting ls.show_clickable_links, it shows clickable links in ls output if your terminal supports it
osc8: true
# osc9_9 is from ConEmu and is starting to get wider support. It's similar to osc7 in that it communicates the path to the terminal
osc9_9: false
# osc133 is several escapes invented by Final Term which include the supported ones below.
# 133;A - Mark prompt start
# 133;B - Mark prompt end
# 133;C - Mark pre-execution
# 133;D;exit - Mark execution finished with exit code
# This is used to enable terminals to know where the prompt is, the command is, where the command finishes, and where the output of the command is
osc133: true
# osc633 is closely related to osc133 but only exists in visual studio code (vscode) and supports their shell integration features
# 633;A - Mark prompt start
# 633;B - Mark prompt end
# 633;C - Mark pre-execution
# 633;D;exit - Mark execution finished with exit code
# 633;E - NOT IMPLEMENTED - Explicitly set the command line with an optional nonce
# 633;P;Cwd=<path> - Mark the current working directory and communicate it to the terminal
# and also helps with the run recent menu in vscode
osc633: true
# reset_application_mode is escape \x1b[?1l and was added to help ssh work better
reset_application_mode: true
}
# Description
This PR adds raw string support by using `r#` at the beginning of single
quoted strings and `#` at the end.
Notice that escapes do not process, even within single quotes,
parentheses don't mean anything, $variables don't mean anything. It's
just a string.
```nushell
❯ echo r#'one\ntwo (blah) ($var)'#
one\ntwo (blah) ($var)
```
Notice how they work without `echo` or `print` and how they work without
carriage returns.
```nushell
❯ r#'adsfa'#
adsfa
❯ r##"asdfa'@qpejq'##
asdfa'@qpejq
❯ r#'asdfasdfasf
∙ foqwejfqo@'23rfjqf'#
```
They also have a special configurable color in the repl. (use single
quotes though)
![image](https://github.com/nushell/nushell/assets/343840/8780e21d-de4c-45b3-9880-2425f5fe10ef)
They should work like rust raw literals and allow `r##`, `r###`,
`r####`, etc, to help with having one or many `#`'s in the middle of
your raw-string.
They should work with `let` as well.
```nushell
r#'some\nraw\nstring'# | str upcase
```
# Description
This adds a `SharedCow` type as a transparent copy-on-write pointer that
clones to unique on mutate.
As an initial test, the `Record` within `Value::Record` is shared.
There are some pretty big wins for performance. I'll post benchmark
results in a comment. The biggest winner is nested access, as that would
have cloned the records for each cell path follow before and it doesn't
have to anymore.
The reusability of the `SharedCow` type is nice and I think it could be
used to clean up the previous work I did with `Arc` in `EngineState`.
It's meant to be a mostly transparent clone-on-write that just clones on
`.to_mut()` or `.into_owned()` if there are actually multiple
references, but avoids cloning if the reference is unique.
Some platforms don't support the `system-clipboard` feature, notably
termux on android.
The default config currently contained references to `reedline` events
that are only available with the feature enabled (#12179). This thus
broke the out of the box config for those users.
For now be more defensive about this and only enable default events. Add
the alternative as commented out code you can quickly enable.
## Tested with:
```
cargo run --no-default-features --features default-no-clipboard -- --config crates/nu-utils/src/sample_config/default_config.nu

With the introduction of the system clipboard to nushell, many commands
changed their behavior from using a local cut buffer to the system
clipboard, perhaps surprisingly for many users. (See #11907)
This PR changes most of them back to using the local cut buffer and
introduces three commands (`CutSelectionSystem`, `CopySelectionSystem`
and `PasteSystem`) to explicitly use the system clipboard.
# User-Facing Changes
<!-- List of all changes that impact the user experience here. This

Users who in the meantime already used the system clipboard now default
back to the local clipboard. To be able to use the system clipboard
again they have to append the suffix `system` to their current edit
command specified in their keybindings.

# Description
This PR uses the new plugin protocol to intelligently keep plugin
processes running in the background for further plugin calls.
Running plugins can be seen by running the new `plugin list` command,
and stopped by running the new `plugin stop` command.
This is an enhancement for the performance of plugins, as starting new
plugin processes has overhead, especially for plugins in languages that
take a significant amount of time on startup. It also enables plugins
that have persistent state between commands, making the migration of
features like dataframes and `stor` to plugins possible.
Plugins are automatically stopped by the new plugin garbage collector,
configurable with `$env.config.plugin_gc`:
```nushell
$env.config.plugin_gc = {
# Configuration for plugin garbage collection
default: {
enabled: true # true to enable stopping of inactive plugins
stop_after: 10sec # how long to wait after a plugin is inactive to stop it
}
plugins: {
# alternate configuration for specific plugins, by name, for example:
#
# gstat: {
# enabled: false
# }
}
}
```
If garbage collection is enabled, plugins will be stopped after
`stop_after` passes after they were last active. Plugins are counted as
inactive if they have no running plugin calls. Reading the stream from
the response of a plugin call is still considered to be activity, but if
a plugin holds on to a stream but the call ends without an active
streaming response, it is not counted as active even if it is reading
it. Plugins can explicitly disable the GC as appropriate with
`engine.set_gc_disabled(true)`.
The `version` command now lists plugin names rather than plugin
commands. The list of plugin commands is accessible via `plugin list`.
Recommend doing this together with #12029, because it will likely force
plugin developers to do the right thing with mutability and lead to less
unexpected behavior when running plugins nested / in parallel.
# User-Facing Changes
- new command: `plugin list`
- new command: `plugin stop`
- changed command: `version` (now lists plugin names, rather than
commands)
- new config: `$env.config.plugin_gc`
- Plugins will keep running and be reused, at least for the configured
GC period
- Plugins that used mutable state in weird ways like `inc` did might
misbehave until fixed
- Plugins can disable GC if they need to
- Had to change plugin signature to accept `&EngineInterface` so that
the GC disable feature works. #12029 does this anyway, and I'm expecting
(resolvable) conflicts with that
# Tests + Formatting
- 🟢 `toolkit fmt`
- 🟢 `toolkit clippy`
- 🟢 `toolkit test`

Because there is some specific OS behavior required for plugins to not
respond to Ctrl-C directly, I've developed against and tested on both
Linux and Windows to ensure that works properly.

- a single place where dependency versions are declared
- reduces the number of files to change when upgrading a dependency
- reduces the risk of accidentally depending on 2 different versions of
the same dependency
I've only done a few so far. If this PR is accepted, I might continue
and progressively do the rest.

# Description
Show an example of loading from a custom file, and an example of adding
multiple entry to PATH. Loading from a custom file will hopefully allow
for greater modularity of configuration files out of the box for new
users. Adding multiple paths to PATH is very common, and will help new
users to.
Adds this:
```
# To add multiple paths to PATH this may be simpler:
# use std "path add"
# $env.PATH = ($env.PATH | split row (char esep))
# path add /some/path
# path add ($env.CARGO_HOME | path join "bin")
# path add ($env.HOME | path join ".local" "bin")
# $env.PATH = ($env.PATH | uniq)
# To load from a custom file you can use:
# source ($nu.default-config-dir | path join 'custom.nu')
```

# Description
Hi,
Fixes#10838, where before the `date` would be formatted incorrectly,
and was not picking `LC_TIME` for time formatting, but it picked the
first locale returned by the `sys-locale` crate instead. Now it will
format time based on `LC_TIME`. For example,
```
// my locale `nl_NL.UTF-8`
❯ date now | format date '%x %X'
20-02-24 17:17:12
$env.LC_TIME = "en_US.UTF-8"
❯ date now | format date '%x %X'
02/20/2024 05:16:28 PM
```
Note that I also changed the `default_env.nu` as otherwise the Time will
show AM/PM twice. Also reason for the `chrono` update is because this
relies on a fix to upstream repo, which i initially submitted an
[issue](https://github.com/chronotope/chrono/issues/1349#event-11765363286)

This PR addresses a minor mismatch in a keybinding name within the
`default_config.nu` file. Additionally, it applies formatting for
consistency.

This PR introduces the capability to select text using the existing
move.. `EditCommand`s of `reedline`. Those commands are extended with an
optional parameter specifying if text should be selected while
navigating. This enables a workflow familiar from a wide variety of text
editors, where holding `shift` while navigating selects all text between
the initial cursor position when pressing `shift` and the current cursor
position.
Before this PR can be merged the [sibling PR for
reedline](https://github.com/nushell/reedline/pull/689) has to land
first.
# User-Facing Changes
## Additional `EditCommand`s
1. `SelectAll`
2. `CutSelection`
3. `CopySelection`
## New optional parameter on existing `EditCommand`s
All `EditCommand`s of `EditType` `MoveCursor` have a new optional
parameter named `select` of type `bool`. If this parameter is not set by
a user it is treated as false, which corresponds to their behavior up to
now.
I am relatively new to `nushell` and as such may not know of existing
behavior that might change through this PR. However, I believe there
should be none. I come to this conclusion because
1. Existing commands are extended only with an *optional* additional
parameter, users who currently use these EditCommands keep their
existing behavior if they don't use it.
2. A few new commands are introduced which were previously not valid.
3. The default keybindings specified in `default_config.nu` are
untouched.
# Tests + Formatting
Tests for the new optional parameter for the move commands are included
to make sure that they truly are optional and an unused optional
parameter conforms to the previous behavior.
# Description
When nushell calls a plugin it now sends a configuration `Value` from
the nushell config under `$env.config.plugins.PLUGIN_SHORT_NAME`. This
allows plugin authors to read configuration provided by plugin users.
The `PLUGIN_SHORT_NAME` must match the registered filename after
`nu_plugin_`. If you register `target/debug/nu_plugin_config` the
`PLUGIN_NAME` will be `config` and the nushell config will loook like:
$env.config = {
# ...
plugins: {
config: [
some
values
]
}
}
Configuration may also use a closure which allows passing values from
`$env` to a plugin:
$env.config = {
# ...
plugins: {
config: {||
$env.some_value
}
}
}
This is a breaking change for the plugin API as the `Plugin::run()`
function now accepts a new configuration argument which is an
`&Option<Value>`. If no configuration was supplied the value is `None`.
Plugins compiled after this change should work with older nushell, and
will behave as if the configuration was not set.
Initially discussed in #10867
# User-Facing Changes
* Plugins can read configuration data stored in `$env.config.plugins`
* The plugin `CallInfo` now includes a `config` entry, existing plugins

PR1 -
3de58d4dc2
with update
7fcdb242d9
- This follows our mantra of having everything with defaults written in
nushell rust code. So, that if you run without a config, you get the
same behavior as with the default config/env files. This sets
NU_LIB_DIRS to $nu.config-path/scripts and sets NU_PLUGIN_DIRS to
$nu.config-path/plugins.
PR2 -
0e8ac876fd
- The benchmarks have been broke for some time and we didn't notice it.
This PR fixes that. It's dependent on PR1 because it was throwing errors
because PWD needed to be set to a valid folder and `$nu` did not exist
based on how the benchmark was setup.
I've tested the benchmarks and they run without error now and I've also
launched nushell as `nu -n --no-std-lib` and the env vars exist.

# Description
This PR enables a new feature that shows which externals are found in
your path via the syntax highlighter as you type.
![external_resolved](https://github.com/nushell/nushell/assets/343840/e5fa91f0-6fac-485c-8afc-5711fc0ed9bc)
This idea could use some improvement where it caches the items in your
path and on some trigger, expires that cache and creates a new on. Right
now, all it does is call the `which` crate on every character you type.
This could be problematic if you have hundreds of paths in your PATH or
if some of your paths in your Path point to extraordinarily slow file
systems. WSL pointing to Windows comes to mind. Either way, I've thrown
it up here for people to try and provide feedback. I think the novelty
of showing what is valid and what isn't is pretty cool. I believe
fish-shell also does this, IIRC.

# Description
Add an extension trait `IgnoreCaseExt` to nu_utils which adds some case
insensitivity helpers, and use them throughout nu to improve the
handling of case insensitivity. Proper case folding is done via unicase,
which is already a dependency via mime_guess from nu-command.
In actuality a lot of code still does `to_lowercase`, because unicase
only provides immediate comparison and doesn't expose a `to_folded_case`
yet. And since we do a lot of `contains`/`starts_with`/`ends_with`, it's
not sufficient to just have `eq_ignore_case`. But if we get access in
the future, this makes us ready to use it with a change in one place.
Plus, it's clearer what the purpose is at the call site to call
`to_folded_case` instead of `to_lowercase` if it's exclusively for the
purpose of case insensitive comparison, even if it just does
`to_lowercase` still.
# User-Facing Changes
- Some commands that were supposed to be case insensitive remained only
insensitive to ASCII case (a-z), and now are case insensitive w.r.t.
non-ASCII characters as well.

# Description
This removes the old style "cd with abbreviations" that would attempt to
guess what directory you wanted to `cd` to. This would sometimes have
false positives, so we left it off by default in the config.
In the current main, we have much-improved path completions
(https://github.com/nushell/nushell/pull/10543) so you can now do `cd
a/b<tab>` and get a much better experience (because you can see the
directory you're about to cd to). This removes the need for the previous
abbreviation system.
# User-Facing Changes
This does remove the old abbreviation system. It will likely mean that
old config files that have settings for abbreviations will now get
errors.

This PR removes the `line_head_top`, `line_head_bottom`, `line_shift`,
and `line_index` configuration options from `explore`. These were
previously used to control whether the horizontal+vertical lines in this
`ls | explore -i` screenshot would be displayed:
![image](https://github.com/nushell/nushell/assets/26268125/b705e8a0-935c-40ff-be4a-f119dbae3080)
Now, all lines are displayed (same as the previous default config
values) and this is no longer configurable.
## Context
I'm continuing to chip away at `explore` when I have time. I have a
long-term goal to make `explore` simpler for users+developers. For now
I'm mostly making small incremental changes where I find underused
functionality+configuration and remove it; hopefully eventually this
will make it easier to make larger changes.
I found these specific config options a little hard to understand when
reading `explore` code, and when reading `config.nu` as a user their
behaviour+naming is not obvious. I also think that in the long term,
`explore` styling should inherit most styling from `table` instead of
having its own styling system.

# Tests + Formatting
# After Submitting
This pr closes#10521.
# Description
The default prompt by nushell will replace `$nu.home-path` with `~`.
E.g. for a user named `user`, `/home/user` would become `~`. This also
works with sub paths, e.g. `/home/user/docs` would become `~/docs`.
The issue is that this replacement was a tad overzealous. A path like
`/home/user-with-suffix` would become `~-with-suffix`. This PR fixes the
issue by updating the home path detection logic.
# User-Facing Changes
The bugged behavior no longer occurs.
# Tests + Formatting
* `cargo` checks were not performed as this does not touch rust.
* The updated logic was tested against

~10,000 randomly selected folders on a linux server. All paths were
processed the same.
# Description
Support keyboard enhancement protocol as implemented by Kitty console,
hence Kitty protocol.
This PR enables Nushell to use keybinding that is not available before,
such as Ctrl+i (that alias to Tab) or Ctrl+e (that alias to Esc, likely
I mistaken). After this PR merged and you set `use_kitty_protocol`
enabled, if your console app support Kitty protocol (WezTerm, Kitty,
etc.) you will be able to set more fine-grained keybinding.
For Colemak users, this feature is a blessing, because some Ctrl+[hjkl]
that previously unmap-able to Ctlr+[hnei] now it is.
# User-Facing Changes
This adds `use_kitty_protocol` config which defaults to false. When set
to `true`, it enables kitty protocol on the line editor when supported,
or else it warns.

More incremental `explore` improvements!
This PR removes the `show_cursor` config from the `explore` command, in
favour of always using the background colour to highlight the selected
cell. I believe this is a better default and I'd like to remove the
`show_cursor` functionality entirely as part of the effort to simplify
`explore`.
The style for selected cells is still configurable. I went with light
blue for the default background colour, it looks OK to me.

## Description
This PR uses environment variables to enable and set a transient prompt,
which lets you draw a different prompt once you've entered a command and
you've moved on to the next line. This is useful if you have a fancy
two-line prompt with a bunch of info about time and git status that you
don't really need in your scrollback buffer.
Here's a screenshot. You can see how my usual prompt has two lines and
would take up a lot more space if every past command also used the full
prompt, but reducing past prompts to `🚀` or `>` makes it take up less
space.
![image](https://github.com/nushell/nushell/assets/45539777/dde8d0f5-f95f-4529-9a14-b7919bd51126)
I added the following lines to my `env.nu` to get that rocket as the
prompt initially:
```nu
$env.TRANSIENT_PROMPT_COMMAND = {|| "" }
$env.TRANSIENT_PROMPT_INDICATOR = {|| open --raw "~/.prompt-indicator" }
$env.TRANSIENT_PROMPT_INDICATOR_VI_INSERT = $env.TRANSIENT_PROMPT_INDICATOR
```
## User-Facing Changes
If you want to change a segment of the prompt, set the corresponding
`TRANSIENT_PROMPT_*` variable.
<!-- If your PR had any user-facing changes, update [the
documentation](https://github.com/nushell/nushell.github.io) after the
PR is merged, if necessary. This will help us keep the docs up to date.
-->
## Problems/Things to Consider:
- The transient prompt clones the `Stack` at the very beginning of the
session and keeps that around. I'm not sure if that could cause
problems, but if so, it could probably take an `Arc<State>` instead.
- This isn't truly a problem, but now there's even more environment
variables, which is kinda annoying.
- There might be some performance issues with creating a new
`NushellPrompt` object and cloning the `Stack` for every segment of the
transient prompt. What's more, the transient prompt is added to the
`Reedline` object whether or not the user has enabled transient prompt,
so if there are indeed performance issues, simply disabling the
transient prompt won't help.
- Perhaps instead of a separate `TRANSIENT_PROMPT_INDICATOR_VI_INSERT`
and `TRANSIENT_PROMPT_INDICATOR_VI_NORMAL`, `TRANSIENT_PROMPT_INDICATOR`
could be used for both (if it exists). Insert and normal mode don't
really matter for previously entered commands.
# Description
There are several cursor shape related issues #7151#9243#7271#8452#10169, you can't disable the cursor shape feature even if you comment
out the entire `cursor_shape` block in the config.nu, and even worse,
when nushell exits with an error, the cursor shape can't be restored,
that is annoying.
This PR provides an opportunity to disable setting the cursor shape.
# User-Facing Changes
If you use the default config.nu, nothing changes, but if you comment
out `cursor_shape` block or set them to `inherit`, related cursor shape
will not be set.

This PR removes the `explore.try.border_color` config item, and instead
always uses the `separator` colour (the one used for regular table
borders) from the current theme.
The PR also removes some unused `explore.config` bits from the default
config (I missed this in https://github.com/nushell/nushell/pull/10259).
### Future Work
This PR is intentionally small, I want to confirm that I'm on the right
track before I rip out more colour config from `explore`. If all goes
well, expect more PRs like this soon.
### Testing
I confirmed that this works by changing my `separator` colour in
`config.nu`, and also confirmed that nothing breaks if a user still has
`explore.try.border_color` in their config.
# Description
This PR reverts some changes to NU_LIB_DIRS and NU_PLUGIN_DIRS in the
default_env.config file. Our practice is to have default configs that
match if you were to run `nu -n`. I agree with this goal, but until
someone adds NU_LIB_DIRS and NU_PLUGIN_DIRS, we should revert this
change and not penalize users, breaking their scripts that run with `nu
-c blah` when `blah` is located in the default_env's NU_LIB_DIRS.

# Description
i have been annoyed enough by this missing feature, so let's add that to
Nushell without requiring any user configuration 😏
# User-Facing Changes
this PR should allow tab completion cycling everytime, without requiring
the user to use the default config files or add the following
keybindings to their config
```nushell
{
name: completion_menu
modifier: none
keycode: tab
mode: [emacs vi_normal vi_insert]
event: {
until: [
{ send: menu name: completion_menu }
{ send: menunext }
{ edit: complete }
]
}
}
```
### 🧪 try it out
from the root of the repo, one can try `<tab>` in each of the following
cases:
- `cargo run -- -n` to load Nushell without any config
- `cargo run -- --config
crates/nu-utils/src/sample_config/default_config.nu --env-config
crates/nu-utils/src/sample_config/default_env.nu` to load the default
configuration
- `cargo run` to load the user configuration
## before
- `<tab>`, `ls <tab>` and `str <tab>` only work with the second `cargo
run`, i.e. when loading the default config files
## after
- `<tab>` should cycle through the available commands
- `ls <tab>` should cycle through the available files and directories
- `str <tab>` should cycle the subcommands of `str`
in all three cases

## Things to be determined
- ~Review naming. `errors.style` is not _that_ consistent with the rest
of the code. Menus use a `style` record, but table rendering mode is set
via `mode`.~ As it's a single config, we're using `error_style` for now.
- Should this kind of setting be toggable with one single parameter?
`accessibility.no_decorations` or similar, which would adjust the style
of both errors and tables accordingly.
# User-Facing Changes
No changes by default, errors will be rendered differently if
`error_style` is set to `simple`.

# Description
This PR adds back the functionality to auto-expand tables based on the
terminal width, using the logic that if the terminal is over 100 columns
to expand.
This sets the default config value in both the Rust and the default
nushell config.
To do so, it also adds back the ability for hooks to be strings of code
and not just code blocks.
Fixed a couple tests: two which assumed that the builtin display hook
didn't use a table -e, and one that assumed a hook couldn't be a string.

# Description
This PR adds a keybinding in the rust code for `search-history` aka
reverse-search as `ctrl+q` so it does not overwrite `history-search`
with `ctrl+r` as it does now.
This PR supercedes #9862. Thanks to @SUPERCILEX for bringing this to our
attention.
